Am I correct in thinking that if you plug this unit into the electrical socket of a room with a weak Wi-Fi signal, it will connect to your router and give you a strong signal in that room?.

True but best to plug it somewhere inbetween you and your router, that way it's like a packet stepping stone between your source and destination.

Thank you. Sounds like just what I need.

It needs to be placed closer to the router, These are best used inbetween the router and the room with the weak signal.
It needs to be able to get a reasonable signal from your router and it then re-broadcasts that signal to extend the wifi range.

If you can set up with ethernet port you will always get the best and fastest connection. So if it's just for one item like a pc, then go ethernet. If you wish to extend for several devices at once place the extender halfway between in another room, providing you get a good signal there. Both are really easy and simple to set up. If you can use a pc and mobile smart phone your ok to set this up

Thank you very much everyone. Very helpful.

Does this appear as the same ssid? I bought an extender that only worked if you switched to it as a separate Ap which means apple devices won't switch as they don't lose the signal completely from the main router
#8
if you set it up as an access point it you don't need to worry about where you place it . Don't use it in extender mode but set up as an access point with the same ssid

I was tempted with one of these some time ago but went with Powerline Adapters instead. I've got wired internet throughout the house now. spot on.
#10
I thought this was a powerline wifi ap.. opps .. scratch my last comments.

The fact its dual-band for that price is exceptional! If just browsing and light streaming it should be great but it may run into problems trying to pump a lot of data through it due to the way repeaters work. Still worthy of heat!

I wish pin where it writes

Got mine the other day, having BIG problems connecting it in any mode (I just want to use it for my xbox). I can find it in the Network Selection box, but can't get any further. Apparently the router PIN is "incorrect" (which is impossible as we've never changed it), and "Connecting to the network without setting it up" just leaves us with a little box with flashing lights and NO wireless connection at all! Typing in the 198.168.10.1 number doesn't do anything (apparently "The page is unavailable at this time"...every bloody time!). I already use a NETGEAR WiFi Booster, but the signal for Xbox Live is hit and miss (tho our laptops have full signal 24/7 :-/ ) so I just want to boost the booster-don't really wanna spend another £90 if I can help it.

Thinking of getting my money back unless anyone has any ideas???

Powerline it as its just one device (Xbox).
I use a ZyXEL PLA4231 AV 500 in the bedroom, has 2 ports which wire the smart TV & Xbox, it also distributes wifi from powerline too so this device has created a monster network which id back 110%. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I bought this and my son set it up and it has worked fine. However my wife switched it off
and it no longer works. Has anyone any idea why this may have happened.
If not it is going back.
#16
will this work to boost the public wifi on a campsite?
#17
i got 1 of these last week but when i try to set it up i only seem able to set it in its ap mode but really want it as a wireless repeater
#18
What is the default wifi password for this when it is first set up
#19
pass is admin.
#20
In the browser I chnged the 'admin' password for a new one, and now the silvercrest browser is repeatly replaying 'wrong password' (with a lot of ''extra'' black points after introducing the new password on the second box...how can I clean everyting and restart from the beginning with the 'admin' password again... Can you hellp me to restart the setup configuration?
