I've just a karcher washer and am currently reading the manual before putting it to use tomorrow. In the manual it says that certain detergents can damage the washer and they advise you to use official karcher ones (in fact it can invalidate your warranty if you use other detergents).

That's gotta be BS.

How could it damage it.

And I'm pretty sure they cannot force you to use their own product with the threat of voiding the warranty - its the same as used to be the case in the motor industry saying that if you didn't have (say) Ford to service your Ford then the warranty was invalid - now proved to be illegal.

it will only invalidate your warranty i you se the crap those hand wash stationsuse, andthey can tell you have used it as the inlet tube will turn whte. i wouldnt use any etergent through the presure washer, if i was doing car i use car shampoo with a sponge, using anything else on patios or decking is just useless and a waste of time.

Wouldn't be too sure.
I just changed brands of screen wash in my car from BMW own brand to Sonix.
The remaining BMW wash appears to have reacted with the Sonix to form thick sludge and now the pump can't pull anything out of the bottle. This now means removing the inner wheel arch to clean it out!!!!!!!!

Perhaps similar reactions can happen inside the Karcher?

its Karcher washing detergent then it will be fine in a karcher washer - using other detergents may affect the seals but its unlikely - to avoid cross contamination just make sure its rinsed out.

if this is just detergent it will strip you cars protective coating leaving it open to the elements youll need to wax it etc after using this.

Using a sponge will cause more damage to the paint work, best to use a lambswool mit. This will avoid/minimise "swirling"
