LG BP620 Smart 3D Blu-ray Player - £59.97 - Amazon

112
3d blu-ray player - smart, with lovefilm and netflix support. Has been £80-100 since October. Now a bargain 60 quid. http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/LG-Smart-BP620-Blu-ray-Player/product/B007K6F…

I'll second that if it works. Lovefilm are now completely ignoring me. Thanks for being a loyal customer for 5+ years I spose.
I wouldn't know - haven't used netflix since my trial on the PC. :) If ever get LF working... ;)

I was impressed that it remembers the position you're at on a disc even when the disc is removed and something else played. Beats my 2-3 year old Toshiba which wouldn't remember even if you just hit stop...!
Not tried Lovefilm, we're on Netflix at the moment.

This player is, in general a bargain, and is working very well for us. BUT I'm on the verge of seeing if I can return it because of one simple thing.... Lack of being able to pause when streaming video is a killer and an unbelievable oversight.
Has anyone actually managed to get the Lovefilm app working / to appear even?

I've now emailed Lovefilm directly (and responded to their stupid stock response, ignoring my email).

I'm running the VER:BD9.593.00 version that some above were struggling to install, and the 'server' version / driver is H12IM2N0390.

Anyone? Thanks

fwiw, I've also downloaded the firmware from LG's french and USA websites and I can confirm the LG_BD_7000M60.ROM are identical to the LG's dutch website file when I perform a binary file comparison. The LG_BD_7000M60.ROM file posted at mmdvd.com appears to be a modded file. ie. the .ROM file is different to the LG US/dutch/french files and so should not be used.It is not clear why the LG UK BP420/520/620 use a differently named LG_BD_7002M60.ROMAfter a bit of googling, I have found this LG page which lists both LG_BD_7000M60 and LG_BD_7002M60 versions LG IndonesiaUnfortunately, the LG_BD_7002M60 zip file is also corrupt.I notice the date and time stamp of the LG_BD_7002M60.ROM file contained in the corrupted UK and Indonesia zip files are identical to those for the US/french/dutch LG_BD_7000M60.ROM. It may suggest they may be identical except in filename.I've now also updated my BP620 using the LG dutch website renamed .ROM file too. I went into Setup to check the version had changed and then loaded iPlayer. No errors. The frame skipping is still evident in iplayer. fyi, I notice the BP620 defaults to 'Auto' for the HDMI resolution setting. I've always set it manually to 1080P.I've also come across a strange sound mute problem with the YouTube app (which is inferior to use compared to Sony's implementation). On some 360P videos which are more than 1 hour duration which I tested, I noticed when I start playback, then immediately fast forward more than 15 minutes into the clip, there is no sound when the playback resumes. (Anyone worked out how to fast forward in steps greater than 30 seconds?)With the old firmware, I think the sound did seem to resume within half a minute with one or two videos which had this problem (but this is not conclusive). With the new firmware, I timed up to 4 minutes before the sound appeared with a couple of 360P videos when spending more time than previously testing the YouTube app today. It seems to only affect 360P clips. 480P and 720P don't 'seem' to exhibit this problem but I haven't tested as many 480+P clips.Example 1+hr Google clip on youtubeI think I recall reading somewhere that youtube clips up to 360P are Flash video format. 480P and above are MP4.

Yes the Dutch sourced software is fine.
http://www.lg.com/nl/ondersteuning-product/lg-BP620#

The modified softwares I came across
http://www.mediafire.com/?t60umwhec6cw4#myfiles
Linked from here
http://www.mrmdvd.com/icosupdate.html
Seem to be for the multi region chipped version
http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=159&products_id=1432

They seem to work ok on this vanilla machine and interestingly software can be rolled backwards/forwards at will.

I don't think any software update is going to vastly improve the frustrating experience of wading through treacle on this slow machine or the juddery iplayer. It reminds me of how slow the Sammy smart hub was when it was first introduced.

These comments are of course about the "smart" stuff and not its ability as a bluray and file player. It's good to see that it has component outputs as well as digital unlike this year's model. The DLNA and wireless set up for me has been effortless and that was without using the included software, LG have made that side of things very user friendly.

Available on Amazon now at £79.95
not available at £89.95 either!!!!!
Price is now at £89.95.... :(
Bought this player this week for the boyfriend as he has built an openmediavault N40L micro server with miniDLNA plugin and wanted a way of watching his bluray discs plus stream from the server and have the interactive TV instead of buying a new TV. It has played every thing that has been thrown at it so far (MKV and AVI including 1080p with no buffering over a category 5 wired connection, although it won't play ISO) also plays music files with excellent results and the price is amazing would definitely recommend this. However we have not used the WiFi capability as the wired network was already setup. The player is very quiet when playing the discs and the loading speed is very quick too.
The build quality may not be the best in the world but never judge a book by it's cover ;)
wifi built in on this model, its been at this price for a long time on amazon, this is the cheapest you can get it at the moment, heat added

hackable?

If you mean for region free, yeah there is loads on the net on how to do it. A simple google search for the model and the word "hack".
Who would have thunk it?

thats all I wanted to know, the google lecture wasnt needed
Good price for a Sony. I haven't multiregioned it yet but I have one of these and a suitable One-For-All remote so I'll be giving it a go. If you want it straightaway and collect clubcard points it's also this price in Tesco at the moment....my two local stores (King's Lynn in-town and Boston) have them on the shelf for once!

There’s a working dish in my house with a single LNB I believe so I’m wondering if that’s enough for a single HD Freesat channel or does a HD channel require a dual LNB? I’m guessing that dual LNBs are enough for dual HD channels but I know very little about satellite TV.

P.S. £92 for a STB seems ridiculously expensive when you look at the cost of PVRs. I’m amazed that people are still watching much live TV!

As far as I'm aware, single LNB is fine for HD (provided signal strength is strong enough, which it should be). Twin LNB and twin inputs are only required to STB if you want to record on a PVR. Unlike analogue terrestrial TV or Freeview a satellite signal cannot be split.

You need a separate input for each channel being watched or recorded. ie - watch OR record one channel - one LNB/input, watch one channel and record another - two LNBs/inputs, watch none and record two diferent channels - two LNBs/inputs, watch one and record two other different channels - three LNBs/inputs (though not many boxes do this!), etc, etc......

Not strictly true, if you record 2 programs from the same mux/transponder you can watch another program from any other mux/transponder. If you record 2 programs from different mux/transponders, then you can watch a different program from 1 of the mux/transponders being used to record.

I.e. it’s possible to record two channels and watch a third.

Forgot to say TWIN LNB needed for the above to work.

Desperately looking for a freesat recorder for my dad. Unfortunately I don't think the 100 pound budget will stretch to a humax. Anyone got any recommendations?
If you could stretch to £169 there seem to be some good deals from Humax direct. Refurbished, presumably good as new, with a 1 year warranty. Thinking about this myself. Occasionally you see Sagem etc. Freesat recorders, for around the £100 mark, but I'm not sure I'd go for that.

I have a Freeview recorder, but our signal's poor on some channels, so I also have a Freesat HD box. Unfortunately my Freesat box doesn't record. The cheap Thomson Freeview recorder is alright, but has a mechanism, fan and hard disc, which is way too loud, I usually keep it switched off. I'd make sure the Freesat recorder I buy is as quiet as possible.

Thanks Ciderford,
I have seen those and it might have to be the option was really hoping someone might have seen a brand that I'm not aware of and that has a decent OS. Probably looking for something that doesn't exist in other words.
Freeview is a no go as the signal even post switchover is terrible in my Dad's village.
