Message from her indoors: Few domestic machines made in the last 40 years are any good. They nearly all have fibre gears which eventually fail. You are far better off with an old steel geared machine. Plenty on the sewing forums about this issue. - Better still, if you have room buy a used industrial machine & smile, (though they do weigh a ton)

So how much can this be overclocked?

Depends how well you fabricate the cooling device.

Cold - don't think it can take more than Ice-Cream Sandwich.

Can I just say thank you for all the Lidl deals you have put on this site over the last year. If it wasn't for people like you we would never know about all the fantastic deals in Lidl, (except for the leaflets that come through the door that is)
Thanks. 8).

Not sure, but it's good for multithreaded applications.

"Fibre gears"? Possibly she means plastic gears. Going by that philosophy, you'd never buy a camera, a printer, or anything else with moving parts in it.

But none of those you quoted have to stand the strain of sewing.

True, but they have to withstand the strain of whatever job they're doing, and they will be designed accordingly. There's nothing special about sewing machines which precludes the use of plastic gearing in the right places, sized to cope with the load, and plastic and lubricants have both improved over the past 40 years.
