Isn't this type of value for use in a communal shower rather than for home use?

Yes sort of, its meant for supplying hot water at a max safe temperature to baths, showers or any outlet where the elderly or children may be at risk of scalding.
As in my original listing it may not be for many of our members but the price drop is so dramatic it could be a bargain for someone who needs one.
This would be useful for someone with a solar hot water heating installation. You could use it to push up the stored water temperature top limit, and hence maximise energy storage, whilst having water at the tap come out at a safe temperature.
I would rate this HOT.... as a safety device, any home could benefit - after all, old or elderly are in most homes at least some of the time - the only drawback I can see, is the potential for Legionnaires disease - something most home owners needn't normally lose a lot of sleep over, but with this, they probably would be wise to take an extra precaution, like is expected in commercial situations.

With this sort of device (as required in nursing homes, nurseries etc.) you end up with potential long runs of just warm water left in pipes and shower heads which never otherwise gets HOT. That normally wouldn't happen as they would be usually be either hot OR cold right up to the tap or shower. If such water gets contaminated with Legionella pneumophila (and it can) then the shower would pump out a spray of those bugs - which is where Legionnaires disease come from!

It is easy to get round... all that is needed is the thermostat is turned up to maximum and the very hot water run through the legs of pipes and appliances connected for a while every few weeks or so, and every time the system has been left unused (holidays etc.), but it has to be done carefully, in case it gets forgotten about, and an otherwise safe supply gets left turned up to high and is scalding hot!

You normally wouldn't use this sort of thing feeding to kitchen sinks as you want water a bit hotter for that purpose
