Food near me is excellent. Please do not judge all pubs nationwide by your own personal experience.

Muppet, be better not to post than just say that.

I have voted hot!!!

We went a couple of weeks ago when they had 2 meals for £5 and they are normal portions but the only problem is they are not openly advertised as they will obviously prefer you to buy a normal priced meal.

Food was lovely and warm, i had the BBq chicken (served on a skillet), granted one part of the chicken was a little overcooked but that could happen anywhere (Sure Royals would have complained about that) ;-) and my wife had the lasagne which she said was lovely. Portion was good as other people had on surrounding tables and paid £5 + for their meals each.

Ive been once and had a bbq burger and it was yummy!! Will definately be going again thanks for this!

I thought we were suposed to be advancing in healthy food. My closest sizzling pub have just taken over a pub which used to cook fresh but now it will be microwaved cheap food.Might aswell go to Macdonalds.

really good food at the newark sizzler and the staff brilliant not a compliant from me we have had the £5 deal and it was well worth it good portions and served hot
#17
I've been to two of these pubs in the last two months and the food was VILE.,. better to put the £2.99 towards a decent meal somewhere else
#18
£2.99 is admitedly cheap. But the one where i live is the worst place ive ever eaten, wouldn't go back. The quality of the food was terrible, as was the beer and the service.
Hope its better in the ones near everyone else so they can take advantage of this.

The Wagon and Horses in Hucclecote, Gloucester is superb.
Good staff, great food.

Since when has pub chain food and quality been in the same sentence? Ive eaten in a couple of these places and yes the food is grim. I prefer fresh home cooked (or decentish restaurant) food thanks even if it costs more.
anyway, whats a Tipsy Pie? lol, whatever next "zippy the burger"

my wife runs one of these pubs, we have had a few now with the same company.

if you knew what standards are set regarding food quality you would be very pleasantly surprised!

90% of the food is cooked traditionally, very little is microwaved tbh.

the standard of the ingredients is the same across the board as the group use nominated suppliers, the only difference between pubs is obviously only the chef.

on a side note, the reason the food is so "cheap" comes down to a couple of reasons.

if you stay in the pub for more than an hour or so, you will see how much comes out of the kitchen, a little profit each time is better than an empty pub.

if you go in for a meal, you generally dont order tap water, hence the profit on drinks sales.

regular promotions tend to bring in customers who wouldnt generally visit the pub but may well do regularly after when they see that they are bright, cosy and welcoming.

my wifes current pub had nearl £500,000 spent on it during the last refurb, these certainly are very decent places to eat/drink!
if you feel that the food has not been cooked correctly then complain, you should never have any problems with the standard of the ingredients themselves.

you mean its most of it is prepared offsite and heated in the kitchen. I personally dont like this type of food....prefer my chicken to look like its come from a chicken, you know with bones...im not stupid like alot of people on here my wife's parents are in the trade!!

They have two successful bar/restuarants in London and they cook chinese food inc dim sum from scratch...its cheap too...as for spending £500K on a refurb is your place the size of Earl's court? if not, i'd sack you crooked builders if i were you

agreed that times may be difficult and this is better than a hideous mcdonalds (yes ive eaten a mcadonalds burger and im sure ill eat one in the future as its convenient)

so you dont buy chicken breast then, you prefer to de-bone the chicken and section it?

id hate to see your kitchen if you fancied a steak!

Went to The Dutch House in Lee, London last Tuesday. The diet coke tasted like gnats pee. A customer hovered near our table looking closely at the carpet, turned out there was a dead mouse on the floor. Lost our appetite totally, decided we won't go there again, especially after the barmaid came round and swept the mouse into an ice bucket! The thought of it now leaves me feeling nauseous.

A "tipsy pie" is their name for a steak and ale pie, just a more amusing name. I've worked in the Red Lion Sizzler in Bath and the food is top notch though I've not been there for a year or so. Cheap food but good portions.

Anything that goes on a grill is done to order, so steaks, burgers, gammon, bacon, sausages etc. The chicken breasts are cooked in a water bath and then grilled, vegetables are boil in a bag, I think the pasta dishes were the only ones not cooked from fresh and are reheated in the oven. The only microwave was in the dessert section.

Unfortunately with franchise pubs, it's hit and miss as to what quality to expect depending on the care of the chef or the propriator. Either go on faith or the recommendations given here. But the Bath one was run like a proper kitchen and you couldn't get a better value Mixed Grill in town (King size was somewhere in the region of 32oz of meat!)

So hot from me.

I like the food at these places... they do a good chilli and cheese burger - and the menu is very cheap. For this price, just go try the food, if you don't like it, then you have lost a whopping £3 per head... its no biggie.

thumbs up from me - very good place to get nice stodgy food for a hangover also!

If you been in one of these you'd know it's fried rubbish not microwaved.

Can't believe this has been voted hot?
Says a lot about our society when people choose to eat in these places.

The ingredients at cost for each dish will be about 70p
What do you think you are eating?

FFS there are some morons around here.....

Quality this, microwave that.... FFS.....

No its not as high quality as The Ritz but then its not the same f**king price.....

Its all relative but at the end of the day its a meal for a few quid...

Some people need to get a grip and stop only eating hummus and only drinking water for a second and live a little....
