I doubt it would be that bad but you also hope that the cost is purely down to the pubs wanting to get footfall through the doors rather than stay open during the day for just a couple of customers.
#7
Out of interest, what did the Sizzling Pub Co. chain used to be called?

Unless you are making food yourself - you dont know what you are eating anywhere.

Look at the years the supermarkets pumped transfats (that are known to shorten your life) into your food as it increased shelf life?

Call me a cynic - but did they stop as it was in our health interests - or as they were killing potential customers?

a bit of both.
ive worked in the catering industry for a good few years. at one point a large pub chain was passing off horse meat as beef.
#12
i think they used to be called Toby Taverns, would not swear to it though, my nearest is 1 1/2 miles from me so might be worth a peak. hot deal.
the reason that they can do the meals so cheap is because they make a higher profit on the beers to make up for the cheap food.

just noticed the first posters name SBFC i am from Stevenage aswell

And there was me thinking I'd had the biggest beef sausage of all time :?
#15
Ah that makes sense, I remember seeing the Toby Taverns in similar locations.

In that case - your nearest is the coopers near to poplars sainsburys!

Ive been there and used this deal before xmas - and the food was good.

that company has cleaned up its act in the last few years. but they still import their 'british beef' from argentina often from untraceable sources.
#18
All meals are what you get on the menu as a regular i.e. BBQ Smothered chicken, single burger etc... I work at one part time! foods good to be fair and why do people always kick off about 2 meals for £5? thats proper cheap stuff! and decent!
#19
never heard of this place before. apparently there is one 12 miles from me but without a car that's no good.

still a hot deal though!

Don't think much of the menu. And of course you will be buying a drink X2 which will bring a cheap lunch to £10.

Or you could drink tap water!

The main menu is still fairly cheap if you don't like the 2 for £5 deal.

i live in the chells area and i have been to the coopers before and had good meals their,
the carvery at the roebuck do some good meals aswell.
#24
The majority of these meals will be bought in frozen and then microwaved. The reason the food is cheap isn't only because they get some profit back on the drinks you will inevitably buy, but also because most of the food is low quality and mass produced. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it, but you get what you pay for.
#25
them bbq burger stacks are well nice!
#26
Me and my nan go there about once a month and the food is always nice, hate the sizzling plates though!!
#27

good pub grub!

nope, this is low-quality, bad pub grub. But cheap.

I go regularly to our local one on Whitehall Road, Leeds. You can't argue for the price, definitely worth a visit. One thing to note: In the one I have visited there is a home-made sign printed out at the bar saying that the offer is not available on Sundays (despite it being plastered on the signs outside, and on the menus that the offer is available "All Day, Every Day", oops!), not sure if this is the case at the rest of the chain's pubs. Anyway, I would say worth phoning up beforehand if you're planning a Sunday visit...
#31
I can imagine the quality is of an extremely high standard lol.

How could they. Land prices in Central London must be 10 times higher than say Heckmondwike.
#35
there is one of these near work, they do not taken reservations, are rude & lots of people have waited up to 45 mins & then the food is wrong when it arrives :whistling:
the quorn burgers are supposed to be okay though
#36
Nice spot
#37
got to have the smothered chicken it was our of the world and for £2.50 who could complain. when the waitress asked me if everything was ok i felt i should have asked her if her job was safe with the cost of my meal being so cheap. sizzling pubs you rock my world
