(BTW before ppl start flaming me, it was meant to be a joke) oO
That's pretty secure! :p:D
Better change your order to diesels! :D
Possibly a good deal if you live near the Carfile Skoda dealer which is normally in the Midlands. Poor deal if you have to travel. Plus your local dealer will probably throw in mats. I ordered a Mazda from Carfile at a saving of over £4k. My local dealer would only only give £1.5k off. Factor in one way car rental, hotel, kebab in Stoke, and fuel there and back and the saving was still £3.8k.
It's just a badge TBH and it's all about snobbery. There was nothing wrong with the old Skodas but everyone wanted a reason to have a laugh at someone else's expense down the pub because they bought a Vauxhall/Ford which were not much better than the Skoda's of the day, but were twice the price.
There are plenty of VW logos on individual parts under the bonnet. Skoda are very overpriced though IMO - they've tried to convert it from an economy brand to a "you're getting a VW with a different badge on it". VW's themselves are pretty $h** but people seem to think they're great for some reason. If you want cheap and good nowadays you're probably far better off looking at brands like Hyundai - you get far more for your money.
Far from it. Also far more economical and powerful than previous equivalent cylinder sized petrol engines. But the diesels are far more popular for obvious reasons, hence the deal on this model.

I honestly thought this deal existed because the engine is an old unit that is being taken out of production.
"more economical and powerful than previous equivelants" - in the VAG group I assume you mean because judging by the performance and economy figures there are more economical, cleaner 1.6 engines out there in mainstream cars.
Despite anewman's comments, yes this is the previous generation engine. It's good, but not as good as the new ones. The car has effectively been replaced by the 1.2 TSi
For my money, I'd rather have had the VAT-off offer on a latest generation engine than 25% off of the old one, Though as they've not got such a good deal on it would be a close run thing...
