In light of the Vodafone £22 fibre deal I thought I would chance my arm with the retention team at sky as I am coming to the end of my free year of Broadband. They have agreed to £10pm line rental and £10pm fibre with no activation charge. Thought this may help others who are coming to the end of their freebies

I got this deal back in June. It took me 3 phones calls before they offered it to me. Free postage and setup. Mind you when they connected the fibre to my house, they connected my phone line to someone else... Daisy to them, they have me any extra £2.50 discount a month for the inconvenience. Heat added :p

Blimey sounds like a nightmare. Fingers crossed mine goes a bit smoother. Apparently it should take 14 days to get up and running so we shall see then

Got the same this month, one phone call and hold out until the end.

Sky 'technical' are a joke, my fibre broadband went off (tests showed it was working but I couldn't access a damn thing... told them from the start it was nothing in this house (was having to tether to use web/email), after 5 days of restarting/rebooting blah blah blah they sent a BT bloke to the house.... as I told them, nothing wrong here, problem at the junction box, less than useless...

What's their definition of a new customer, anyone know? My free year of Sky is also coming to an end, but I wanna know how long you have to be gone before you become a new customer again? (and so eligible for their latest offerings)

Just rang to speak to Retentions. Got Unlimited broadband ** free again and line rental for £10 a month. She originally said £12.50 but I hesitated, said I'd have to think about it, and she knocked it down to £10. Keep in mind though that the offer starts right there and then if you choose to accept it. And calling back might mean a different offer entirely - for better or worse.

** not fibre.

Re "new customers" you have to be gone for 12 months before you're new again.

which number did you use to called retentions?

I went through the Contact Us options on the website to get this no. 03300 412 548.

Then it asked me why I was caling and said "Retentions". After 10 mins (!) someone picked up, and I asked if this was Rententions, to which she said..... no (!) .. and I was on hold again for another 10 mins.

They suck you in by telling you that any offer being made is "at point of call" and if you ring another day you might not get the same offer (which if you think about it, is out of order). I had one month to go (paying the 5.35 that was left) but for the sake of 4.65 I let them start me early. I thought you had to give one month's notice to terminate, so it catches you out really.

Yeah, I thought so about 1 month notice, but in other thread someone managed to cancelled in final week, bit confusing, my guess is it depends on who you speak to. I just wonder if there's a specific number to retentions.
Anyway thanks and well done.

I should add that you do get a cooling off period though. Of 31 days.

What's not at all clear (and I tried to ask, but she was reading out all the T&Cs and conveniently glossed over it) is if I cancelled the renewal say in one week, what charges I wd be paying for the week that I just used. I bet this is where they try and shaft you.
