Not as good as the 12 months half price, free hd pack and free sky hd box last year or so but probably the best available at the moment afaik.....

This may only be useful for existing non-hd sky customers...please don't vote cold just because you are not in this situation!! This may be the best option atm for those wanting to upgrade to sky hd.

My half price for 6months ended a second time and they didn't offer a third time. I've been on sky+ and they offered my free upgrade to a sky+ hd box plus £100 credit to go towards the 12 months HD pack cost.

There was also the option of paying an extra £49 to get the 1.5TB box instead(1TB personal, 500GB sky anytime vs 250GB+250GB on the normal box, so 4 times more recording space!). I went for it and paid that extra on credit card. They also charged me £60 installation which will be refunded back though.

The way I see it: on the minimum package ~£20+£10 hd pack charge = 30 x 12 = ~£360 for the year minus the £100 plus the £49 box cost = ~£310 for the year. The 1TB box alone is around £300 on fleabay so sky service for the year is nearly free - but only if u plan on buying the box on it's own anyway!

This isn't an online deal - you only get 3 months free hd pack online with a free or £49 box. Only available over the phone. I used 020 7126 7020 and asked to cancel.

Hope this helps!

bit like the free £100 m&s voucher they were offering though of coarse £100 credit will be better for most people.

i get about 30+ hours recording on my standard hd box which is fine for me but would be worth upgrading just too sell on i guess:)

From what I can see, you're only looking to get about £200 for the HD box... But good price for those who can get it...

As i don't have sky it's £317.25 for me for one year and I can't get their HS broadband...

And this is just for their cheapest package...

I've got Freesat = £0
I've got HD Freeview = £0
I've got Humax Freeview recorder which is over 4 years old so owes me nothing..
I can get iPlayer over the web...

Why does anyone bother with sky...???

COLD from me...mainly cos it's Sky...

Hot - Good deal - did you threaten to cancel the whole package? I have Basic + HD pack but was seriously considering cancelling the HD pack - I never watch HD since I prerecord virtually everything and HD takes up too much space on a standard HD box.

The problem is the suckers who fall for it are adding to the Murdoch war-chest so things like Glee, House etc are extravagantly overbid on - and never aired Free-to-view.

I think this is better than the £100 M&S voucher offer, which I got recently as you have to wait for 45 days to get the M&S voucher. The credit is better as you don't need to buy M&S stuff.

I have voted this as a good deal even though I think SKY is the pits for treating existing customers.

It works out that you get the HD box for £10 as you pay an extra £10 a month to upgrade to Sky HD but you get £100 back and also £10 from quidco. £10 for a HD box worth £300 is a good bargain (if you can forget the fact that sky is terrible). You can cancel the HD part after 12 months.

The HD box will always be good as an extra box as you can still keep your current box and use that when the new box breaks down. The HD box also allows you to use the new sky anytime+ service through sky broadband.

I asked them to put me on the record only £10 a month rolling contract

The 10 quid record rolling contract is a bit expensive, better to get the half price offer of all the basic packs, think it costs me about 12.50. Or even a freesat recorder rather than pay 120 per year for no pay channels, I think you can get the technisat for 99 quid and plug in a harddrive to enable recording, or a freesat hd recorder like the t2200 for 59 quid by plugging in a hard drive again.

Interesting - i wasnt aware of the record only option but suppose I would miss a couple of the Sky channels.

can anyone help

I want broadband and ability to record tv with a reasonable/good picture. Free sat will cost approx
Box £200 humax
Dish and installation £100 (no i am not going to do this myself so please dont suggest - i cant be bothered)
Plus i would still need line rental and broadband plus free calls from home.
Not bothered about HD

What would this deal work out to be over the year including line rental?
Thanks for help i am getting so confused.
Cheers

The HD box also allows you to use the new sky anytime+ service through sky broadband.

You need to be on Sky LLU not just Sky BB.

Half price offer is not always readily available. I had it for a year but they won't give it to me anymore. Freesat/freeview haven't got all the channels sky FTA has....and connecting an external box for recording is not the same seamless user experience.
#13
not the same seamless user experience, sounds like something sky would try and say to justify £10 for nothing. Tivo tried to charge £10 for the listings and that did not work out for them. Paying for the record function on something you own is a bit like buying a car and then paying the garage each month to use the radio. I'd rather buy the Humax HDR myself for the full seamless user experience and no monthly costs.

Just called up and got Sky world half price for 6 months

COLD from me...mainly cos it's Sky...

and there, in a nutshell, is the problem with this site (or rather, a problem with some people who can't understand the difference between a cold deal and something they don't personally like/wouldn't make use of)..

saying that is like voting a voucher for free peanut butter cold just because you don't like peanut butter.. this country..

thanks for the tip, gadgets - i was about to sign-up online, but i reckon i'll phone them now and give it the ol' "hi there :) virgin have just called me to offer me a free tivo, etc. but i thought i'd see what you guys could offer before i consider switching,";)
#16
just to confirm - i have just called 020 7126 7020, as per the OP, and said i wanted to cancel as virgin had called me and blagged me into having "one of their fancy new tivo boxes".. the girl put me through to the "cancellation" team, who promptly put me on hold, then came back a few minutes later and said if i paid £49 for the 1TB box then they would credit my account with £100, effectively giving me the HD package for 10 months free (seeing as i was already planning on buying the 1TB box, unbeknownst to them)..

so, consider me one happy customer - heat given :D

Just got me bill through the door, £72.50! Guess me one year bestbuy offer was over lol!

Called em up and said can't justify £72! For sky!
He said don't worry alot of people have called up now that the offer has come to the end, he offered half price for 6 months no contract but couldn't do anything on the hd monthly so settled for £46 a month instead of £72.50 so I went for it!!

What happens in 6 months? Do we all call back? :P.
#18
Just called to cancel Sky after the Bestbuy offer. Was paying just over £12 a month for the basic package and free HD. They offered me the same package for half price for six months then told me that it would be £10 a month for HD. I said bye bye. Not worth it for £22 a month. Well I have got a free HD Freesat box from them.

In the end it cost me £80 for the year because I got £65 from Quidco.

I needed to get Sky or a TV aerial when I moved in to my property last year because there was nothing. Sky worked out the cheapest because the installation for a satellite dish or tv aerial would have cost more (unless I installed my own dish and used my HD pc satellite card)
