I know these deals have been hit and miss in the past, but I had it confirmed with the SKY installation man today when he installed mine.

I phoned SKY last week and said I wanted an HD box. The inevitable costs were spouted at me, so I asked to cancel. Instantly they stated they could supply me a free, brand new 250gb SKY + HD box, free installation with no HD subscription.

I have had it installed today and the most common HD channels are free, inc BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel 4, 5 HD etc are all free.

The SKY installer stated to have it all for free is now pretty much the norm as long as you ask!

Thanks to 'kvn618' who rightfully states, as I forgot to mention, you can have 6 months half price instead if you'd prefer. Either way its a winner!

lemme check.. you can get them to give you the hd box and install it, even if you don't pay any subscription? why would they do that?
#2
they no longer make 'standard box', so the only option is HD. I phoned them on friday and asked to cancel, so they offered 6 months at half price... Total saving £66 so settled at it
#3
to keep you as a customer and have a monthly sub coming into their bank account, The box and standard HD costs very little to supply from sky as they are bought in such large quantities. Buttons out of pocket from sky but plenty more months of income guaranteed

I agree, same happened to me, I went to BT, luckily they missold their package claiming football was available within 1 hour of games when infact it was 8 hrs, managed to get back to Sky.

Yep got this deal 2 months ago, existing subscriber on lowest package. Free 250gb HD Box, free install with new dish. Then i asked about line and broadband and got 1/2 price line rental for 6 months as well.

NB i then had in post today offer for HD subs FREE for 4 months, as long as took out 12 month @ £10 per month -- answer no thanks but still cheper than just phoning up and paying

My brother works for Sky and he hates people who threaten to cancel so they are offered perks to stay, the minute he gets a caller who says they want to cancel, he tells them no problem and then puts them through to the cancellation department! haha, I bet those who are bluffing hang up faster than you can say couch potato, bricking it in case they've lost their precious Sky! lol

I thought it was the cancellation department (retentions) that offered the deals?

I guess the joke will be on your brother when he realises less customers = less so-called customer service representatives :D lol

i get that. the OP said "most common HD channels are free, inc BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel 4, 5 HD etc are all free. "
it sounds like he's getting "FreeSat HD" - does this exist, and why would sky give you the gear for it?

Just rang them as we pay £10 extra for HD channels but the guy said it did not apply to the Sky HD channels.Anyway thought I'd try my luck and said I was thinking of cancelling due to cost and current econonmic climate and he gave me 6 months half price subscription ( obviously I didn't get Gball's brother !!) Lol.
So thanks anyway OP Heat added

op they gave you a free sky hd box when you went through the cancellation dept, does that mean you took another 12 month contract with them?

hi getting the hd box for free, did it require you to renew your contract? thanks

Problem with Sky or anyone else for that matter is you only get offered the deals if you are thinking of leaving. I genuinely was thinking of leaving to go to BT vision using an offer via Quidco and they gave me 6 months half price which worked out cheaper, so i have stayed, but when it comes round again i'll be looking for the deal thats best value for me.

One other thing, you dont get any rewards for loyalty, my in-laws have had Sky for over 10 years and hadnt upgraded anything in that time, just a replacement box when the other became faulty. I suggested they ring and negotiate a better deal (they wanted Sky +) and Sky werent prepared to do anything special for them despite them being with Sky on a full subscription for a decade. I ended up ringing them back and managed to get a free Sky + box by committing another year.

I did this two months ago, called said that I was changing to Freeview only as I was unhappy with the cost. I explained a Freeview box would pay for iteself in no time, and whilst I appreciated the fact that I wouldnt get same channels the Freeview Box would cover all that I needed. I also explained that my current Sky box was knackered and not under warranty.

They offered me a replacement box and 6 mths half price (I am on the cheapest package approx 18 quid per month). I explained I was looking at possibility of HD Freeview box and she said no problem we can upgrade your box to a HD box with free instillation and half price for 6mths. Saves me circa 50 quid I now have Freeview HD so why the hell not. For one call was well worth it.

My mate did exactly the same 10 minutes after I did it, he got exactly same deal from a different advisor in retention dept.

In my view you dont ask you dont get !

It did meen I had to start a 12 mth contract again, but at half price for twelve months so what!!

I cancelled my sky last week as i am moving house, would it be worth me ringing them back and trying to get this deal or the half price for 12 month by bluffing i didn't know about them being able to do a house switch move

I did the same with Virgin as have BB and phoneline with them. The deal they offered when I went to cancel was poor. So I stood my ground and surprise surprise they called me back 2 weeks later and offered me an ongoing price of just under 16 quid a month for 10MB unlimited BB with free weekend calls and including line rental for 15.86. This was not a special rate but an ongoing price so long as I signed up for another 12 mths. Crackin deal for a good service from them too :)

My contract with Sky was cancelled this time last year. I had the top tier package with them (ie:- everything) and it was coming in at over £100 a month.
I was offered Virgin by a mate, at mates rates, for just over half that inc 50mb BB.
I rang Sky to cancel and they said no probs, mucked up my refund as they cut my TV off the next day and charged me for a full month!
After a week of having Virgin, a customer service rep from SKY called and asked me to go back to them, on exactly the same package I was on before, but at half the price FOR A YEAR!!
I told them they had missed the boat and perhaps if they had offered me that when I was thinking of leaving, I may well of stayed.
I still get flyers through now, offering me half price for 6 months, etc etc.

I've had sky for probably over a decade to and not gotten a bean from them for that loyalty. When weather damaged our dish they were happy to keep charging us while refusing to waive the repair charge to come fix it. So 10 years loyalty plus £50 to fix it so we can watch what we're paying for. I'm not looking to cancel and get a freesat box, Sky can go f themselves and unless you need sports or movies, any of which you can get with a nice net connection, I advise you to look elsewhere as well.

Anyone manage to get this deal

Just threaten to cancel if something breaks and they'll offer a repair for free (worked for me)

I have a friend who's got Virgin and they offer a free call out service whenever anything goes wrong however long one's been with them

I binned mine last month - no time to watch Sky Sports these days and the kids soon adjusted to just having a few channels and now play more with their games console and normal toys and save £50 a month as well :o)

i called sky to ask if they had any deals going with sky hd subs, and was asked if i had any offer codes, with which i replied no she said no deals going,so i hung up,not happy with that answer i called back 5 mins later and asked the same question, and to my surprise i was told by a very polite scottish girl saying i can offer you hd free for the year, thank you very much and said i hope you have agood day,and put the phone down, moral to the story dont give up if want alittle extre from sky,the other day i also phoned and said a mate had been called by sky to offer him sky sports package half price for 3 months, could they match this and they said ok,i think the only way you get a decent deal from sky is to tell a few white lies

I've had Sky for about ten years. I cancelled it in April when Freeview became available. After a few days I was bombarded with phone calls and letters offering me half price subscription for 12 months and £50 of M&S vouchers. I eventually agreed to this offer.
#26
And I am not tied in. I can leave at any time.

Why would anyone brick it? You give 30 days notice to cancel, & can change your mind anytime within the 30 days to stop the cancellation, & after that they will soon welcome you back. I cancelled a couple of years ago & they never offered me a deal. After 2 weeks they phoned me with a good deal.
#29
I've never threatened to cancel, after my initial 12 months I rang up and told them i didn't want to pay so much for tv. They instantly offered me 6 months at half price, after the 6 months was up I rang up again and said can I keep it at half price and they said yes. Simple as that, no long phone call, no extended contract no idle threats, just fair customer service.
#30
dont you have to be either at the end of a contract or on a rolling one to do this? think i still have til end of jan with mine so couldnt possibly cancel yet or could i?
#31
Just ring them, tell them you want a hd box, free install and dont want to pay for the extra hd channels - worked for me a few months ago. I only get the free HD channels but its better than nothing. HD box i have is flakey as hell though - needs cold resets all the time.

ive already got a hd box, signed up for it in feb this year when i moved.

Just be a little carefull regarding cancelling if you have broad band and phone with sky, i have for last 4 years constantly phoned up and threatened to cancel and always got half price and also got a free repair to my dish, well i decided 6 months ago to phone up and get a better deal so threatened to cancel to my amazement sky didnt offer anything and put me on 30 days cancelation. Well i expected to get a phone call from them but got nothing anyway with a week left before my cancellation i phoned up and said i had changed my mind and wantted to stop with sky, i was told yes thats fine, but a week latter everything went off , phone / broadband /sky tv, so anyway phoned them up and was told the cancellation had gone too far and there was no stopping it, im sure it was a **** up on there point. Cost my £125 to get my phone reconnected and took 6 weeks to get braodband on with o2, after that i did get a offer of 6 months half price which i took , but i would never have bb and phone with them any more i think it restricts your bargaining power. I have just cancelled now after my 6 months half price deal again no offer made , so going to sign back up in wifes name when sky goes off which is very soon, or might look for a sky employee code and see if i can get hd.

I just rang to genuinely cancel today. They offered me half price for 6 months, but it was still £10 more than what I currently pay, as I have free HD and half price for a year. He would not budge on the HD fee. Finally, we agreed that, as I have 33 days to the end of my first year contract, I can think about it for 2 days and still call back to cancel if I am not happy with what I have been offered.

Has anyone managed to get 6 months half price PLUS free HD?

If I dont get that, I will most likely cancel.
