Had a letter from sky today about the 1tb box. Says as I was one of first customers to get sky hd box they offer the 1tb for £149 if ordered before 30/6/10. This will go up to £249 after that date. Non-hd customers pay £249 also. You might even be able to sell your existing box on fleabay!! You can self install for free also. Considering when I bought my HD box it was £149 for the 250gb one, it doesn't seem bad for those that may want to store more things on their box.
Call 08442411206 to order

We don't want negative comments because you can get a 250gb for free please. This is £100 cheaper than standard price for this box.

I got this too. Do I, don't I .... lol

It says on t&c's that this price is for existing Sky tv customers, so looks like you don't even need to have HD to get this price. It also says offer limited to receipt of this communication, but worth telling you have had it in the post etc...

Is there anything very technical involved in self install please??

As Far As I Am Aware, If You Have Sky+ You Simply Install those Wires Into Back Of the Box..
If You Do Not Have Sky+ You Will probably Need A Qualified Engineer, But You Can Always Haggle With Sky To Get Free Installation!!

With all this whining about credit crunch etc, I'm amazed how much ppl actually pay abovr the compulsary tv tax (l"icence fee") for watching cr**p tv. Can't be all that bad regarding money.

Smaller box in the new 1TB HD than the previous 160GB HD box, am I correct?

It's not, it's been overhyped.

Thanks for posting this deal, btw. I think it's decent but just got my original HD box replaced by Sky with a 250gb box and as long as you don't store endless amounts of rubbish, it's more than enough space. Though, come the world cup, I may change my mind...

Ta!

WE've got Sky+ and an HD TV - just waiting for the right moment to upgrade to Sky+ HD before the World Cup!

I am tempted, but i think i will wait to hear if someone not on the mailing list managed to get one at this price.

fingers crossed though as I need the extra space, been at 3% free tooooooooo many times recently.

This is a hot deal. Thought it wint let me vote.
#15
I'm guessing if the mailshot is addressed to the 1st customers to get Sky HD then they will be glad of a new box by now. The older HD boxes were well known to be a bit poor with lots of power supply issues.
#16
Oh I got SkyHD on release day, I would take this up for sure, lets see if I have a letter waiting when I get home tonight.

Just do wat I did , buy a 1tb drive and fit one in your existing 300gb HD box using copy+

That would be OK if you just want to expand your storage. However, the newer boxes are a little more reliable (relatively) in comparison to the older Sky+HD boxes; also a little better in operation (faster menus etc). Also, you get a new 12 month warranty, so well worth it if you can get it for £150.

Yes, I have done that but it is still buggy and slow. Really really slow.

anyone got a copy of the letter?

Yes those that received it.

They match up the code on the letter with your account, you won't get it without having the letter which is unique to you.

Ditto. Hot from me though, as I'd snap this up if a letter landed on my doorstep.

There isn't a code on the letter

They know the offer code they need to input into their system so they will know if they have sent you the letter or not. IF the offer is not on your account the wont let you have it, so the letter is no good to anyone that didn't get it.

Yeah, my HD box is plenty enough for me too. I occasionally get to 50% left, then watch a few HD recordings and it soon gets back up again. I'm not gonna bother, but thought there may be some out there that want to store a few HD films, series etc on there. That is what people will need this box for.

I had an exclusive invitation to be one of the first to get the new HD box for ........................£249, no mention of getting it for 149, *******os.
#27
i got a similar letter today pushing the 1tb box but it is offering it to me for a lovely £249 so i think we may find that not everyone will get the lower 149 price. i've had deals sent to me b4 by letter and when you ring them up they always know what letter you have been sent and what deal you have allocated to your account.

Still worth a try. You could say your mate got a letter and you hadn't received one and wondered if they could do the same offer. Nothing ventured....

Absolutely worth a try, but a copy of the letter won't help.

Did you two pay for your HD boxes? I paid £149 + £60 install for mine. This could be why they are promoting it cheaper for those that were screwed in the first place. The month after it was installed, it was reduced to £99 with free install then a couple of months later £49 free install. I am reluctant to change my box now as I had 6 replacement boxes in the first year (all thomson) then now I have had an Amstrad box for nearly a year with no issues yet!! I'm thinking if it aint broke don't fix it!!

Of a similar opinion. I had a fully fledged brand new box for around 10 days when they were released. Since then I've had refurbs - just on my 8th now! These were all Thomsons.

The very first swap-out I argued with Sky as it should have been a newbie replacement - I ended up conceding to a discount as they couldn't guarantee.

These 1tb versions would be Amstrads I guess?

Apparently they are amstrads. Supposed to be bug free as well. Faster EPG than the others too. I had the same problem with the Thomsons. First new one went wrong after 1 week, failing recordings etc. 2nd lasted a few days (this was a refurb, but shouldn't have been. Engineer gave me another new one. That went wrong after about a month and kept getting more refurbs after that as Sky said I only should get another new one within a month of original install date. Eventually after a few more boxes I had a good engineer who I call directly when it went wrong and he sourced me an Amstrad box from someone another engineer and this has been so much better. I was asking for a pace box as my old SKY+ was pace and it worked for 3 years without 1 failed recording. If my year had been up and they kept giving me thomsons that were going wrong I would have played hell if they wanted me to pay for fixing. I also had a call about insuring it for about £15 a month or something daft like that. Told them it should last 5 years under the sale of goods act anyway.

am i correct in thinking half of the memory is reserved for 'ANYTIME TV' ? i have read this some where but can't think where.....
#36
I got letter this morning too, I just called to order only to be told that they have received higher demand than anticipated and that I could not order today. Advised to call back in a few days?

I will be getting one tho as it will be reliable, fast and is smaller than the original box.
Additional information on the box can be found here http://www.satbuyer.co.uk/amstrad-drx895-sky+hd-digibox-1-5tb-p116.html

Are people still having to pay £10 a month for HD?

I'm waiting till it's free, as I was told it won't be long now by the last Sky Customer service bloke I spoke to.

Yes still £10 a month. hopefully it will be free, but they have no real competitors that can offer anywhere near the same number of channels so i don't think it will happen soon.

I can't see it being free soon either, not whilst they are giving out free HD boxes, they have to recoup their fees back somewhere

There is some reserved for anytime tv but debateable how much. On another forum they are saying 1.5tb drive, 500gb reserved for Anytime so 1tb is the available space, however nobody at SKY knows if this is true. I wouldn't worry how much space is available. It will record 240 hours of HD content which is 10 consectutive days of viewing and SD content will probable be three or four times that amount. If that is enough for you then doesn't matter what size is available.
