Went into Cash Converters Kettering store and they had loads of Sky+ HD boxes in good condition for only £30

Sky wanted £199.99 for an extra box so it's a bargain!

I should imagine this is nationwide as on their website theres loads but they are more expensive at £39.99

Make sure not to get a Thompson box, as Sky are currently refreshing these for the newer models capable of handling Anytime+. If you will not be intested in Anytime+ in the future, then fill your boots.

I think Samsung are one of the right models.

Yes the one I got was actually Amstrad and I think it's one of the newer ones as it say 3D on the box :D
#3
I have one of the older (larger) Amstrad boxes and apparently Anytime+ will be coming to the box shortly. Sounds like a good price but always worth calling Sky and "negotiating" a Sky HD upgrade!

But if you bought 1 of these hd boxes wouldn't you need a sky hd subscription . Or could I have the free to air channels like itv hd channel 5 hd etc

Yes but we have already got a Sky box so changing to multiroom which is an extra £10 a month, they can offer a box for £49.99 if you pay an extra £10 for SKY HD however you get the main HD channels like BBC, Channel 4, ITV for free anyway so it's a con.

The only way you could have free to air channels is possibly if you have previously been connected to Sky then you could buy a free to air card off ebay possibly.

People who will benefit from this offer are either people who need a replacement box or like me need one in another room but are not willing to pay a fortune to Sky.

If you changed to muti room at the mo they would give you another box and free 3 months of multi room and sky hd for 3 months, then you would not pay another hd sub on the other box if your already have a hd sub. as they get rid of the 2nd sub from september .

Calm down Phil, your always so angry!

Sky only give a standard HD box, not Sky+ HD, the Sky+ HD is an additional £49.99

You can get anytime plus on the 780 but why they are not sticking it on at the mo to everyone is that there are lots of bugs still on it when using it .

I have it on mine when they changed my box over and tryed it and it works ok .

Sky only give out sky+hd boxes now they gave me another one free for the bedroom, even when they gave me a free new one for downstairs .

I have Sky - we have the HD package, but currently only pay one subscription (i.e. no multiroom). I paid a local aerial contractor to come and put a second line into my bedroom so I could watch freesat. If I bought a second sky box, which channels would I be able to get on it? The ones that I ay for with Sky, or just the free ones like BBC?

Who uses sky these days lol!
#13
I subscribe to Sky but refuse to pay the £10 for HD.... if I get one of these boxes then I would be able to get BBC HD and the free HD channels wouldn't I?

Can anyone confirm if these boxes are any the worse for wear from being ripped from the owner's TV cabinet and stuck into a bin bag during the burglary?
#17
We got rid of Sky in favour of Virgin, but continue to use the Sky+ HD box as a 'freeview' box. The downside is that you don't get as many freeview channels from Sky as an ordinary freview tv would get - you can't get Dave for instance. If you can't blag a box from Sky this sounds quite a good deal as the cheapest HD freeview receivers have been the £30 Tesco ones.

Thanks, I was amazed at how cheap they were, looked on ebay and they were going for at least £60, plus you get a 60 day guarantee. I would have got freeview but that wopuld mean getting a new aerial fitted and it's not even my house lol

No the +service (Recording/Pause etc..) is free to subscribers on any package.

You do have to pay £10pm for the Sky HD Pack though.,(can still get BBC/CH4/ITV HD etc.. for free..)

These Sky boxes are useless unless you are a subscriber as you can't use the record function.
#25
As long as you have sky + you can just plug in an HD box in and receive about 4 or 5 hd channels free (like BBC HD, ITV HD etc etc)
#26
I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the only free hd channels through sky are the bbc ones, just as sky freeview is not the same as aerial freeview, I believe the same is true with HD. Don't assume just coz you get itv free through an aerial you will get it free through sky in hd.

I have Sky HD+ which I subscribe to.

I used to also have multiroom too with a non HD white SKY box but decided not to renew so just use this box for SKY FreeSat. Is it possible to just buy a SKY HD box and just put the card in do I can get the additional FreeSat HD channels?

I did try putting my SKY HD+ card in the non HD box to see if it still works and it said incorrect card. Does that mean each card is coded into the box so you can't just swap and change?
