Comet are currently doing Sky HD for £99 + £30 installation as long as you sign up to Sky Talk (which is free).

I phoned Sky today and they told me that if I wanted to upgrade to Sky HD they would do it for £249.99 if I took Sky Talk or £169 if I took Sky Talk and Multiroom, neither deal really interested me.

I then saw in Comet earlier their deal and it beats Skys own deal hands down.

From looking at my receipt it seems that the £99 goes direct to Sky and the £30 so called installation fee actually goes to Comet so I wouldnt imagine you will be able to haggle for free installation!

As I stated you have to sign up to Sky Talk which is free and this provides you with free evening and weekend calls (BT Line rental still payable). Also you have to pay £10 p/m Sky HD subscription which is standard.

Visit either your local Comet store or I imagine you could call the sales centre.

It's hard to try and get anything HD out of sky lately so it sounds like a good deal.

Yes, you will need to pay £10 per month to receive Sky HD channels (but not if you only want to watch BBC HD).

Cancel it and then reconnect through the Comet offer.

Link isnt working for me....
#8
Do you have to buy anything off comet or just sign up there?
#11
Has anyone else looked into this and got prices for the SKY HD box from other companies for comparison??
#12
Thanks for adding the link thepharmacist, when I looked last night the offer was not availabe online hence me not adding a link.

I have not checked deals elsewhere but a quick check on ebay will show that a HD box alone will set you back £225 with no installation.

Brand new HD boxes on ebay go for £165 + p&p from reputable sky installers (check feedback).... (i bought only two weeks ago)......

This is a great offer if you don't mind changing your phone calls over to them but this also needs you to subscribe for twelve months to the HD subscription @ £10/month, the advantage of buying your own is that you can disconnect whenever you want.

You got a great deal then by the looks of it as the last 3 completed listings on Ebay show prices of £205, £225 and £180 all + pnp.

As for the subscription, there is very little HD content available without subscribing to Sky and I personally dont feel it is worthwhile shelling out 200 or so of the Queens English Pounds to watch BBC in HD (its bad enough having to pay my TV license to watch that dross)!

The price of Sky HD boxes on ebay went up about 2 weeks ago and they now cost around £225. Looks like you got them just in time.

Channel 4 will have a proper HD channel before Christmas but I'm not sure whether you will need to subscribe to Sky HD to gt this or not.
#18
If I subscribe to Sky Talk will this cancel my existing BT phone system?? Or is it just something I can sign up to then completely ignore?

EDIT - Sorry just read the Sky Talk T&Cs. I don't really fancy having Sky as my phone supplier, so I'll pass on this offer for now.
#19
I might phone Sky later and see what they can offer, hopefully they can better this deal.

BBC HD is free to air so you dont need to pay the £10 p/m to view this channel. If Channel 4 HD launch then this will also be free to air.

Sems Ok, I cannot find any additional services on SKYTalk.. like answer service, so if you use 1571 you may need to buy an answerphone.. Can anyone confirm this?

I already have SKY+ and would like it moved to my bedroom (I already have Multiroom). Are Sky doing the install or comet, for a small fee the engineers will put in the second lead to the bedroom (so I have heard) can anyone confirm this too?

Otherwise only 30 days cancellation period ... If SkyTalk is C**P I will cancel and go back to BT.

If you don't take the HD subscription the install charge is a lot higher. From the T&C's on Comet's site:
Standard installation is £30 for when taken with an HD subscription (otherwise £120)

I stated £200 because you would have to purchase the HD box from somewhere like Ebay if you did not take the £10 p/m subscription, you can not simply buy the HD box from Comet for £99 without taking out a subscription, if you go directly to Sky I think they would charge you £400 for the HD box without subscription.

I personally do not see the value in purchasing a HD box without subscribing as BBC HD is currently the only free to air HD channel!

If sky are doing the install, they should install the sky+ in bedroom for free.Just tell them what your requirements are and they should arrange for the engineer to carry out your instuctions. When i bought my HD box from sky last year, that is exactly the same as what i did.If comet are installing and they want an extortionate fee, then DIY.Just attatch a new twin cable to one end of the old cable and pull it through, screw on your connectors and connect up.HTH.

Caller display and 1571 works on sky talk if you had them with BT.

So this is only for existing customers if you cancel and re-subscribe?

Thanks BAZR and Mikeyp answers all my questions so Comet here I come. +rep both

This offer is only really worthwhile if you subscribe to the sports and/or movies as there are hardly any free to air HD channels - may only be just the one BBCHD not certain.
#28
just called sky , total waste of time wanted £299 for a hd box
or with a package deal upgrade about £199

Just to add if you have caller display BT reserves the right to charge you for the priviledge of having it with Sky. But you can get around it doing the following:

Customers who are billed every three months must make at least six chargeable calls within those three months, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £5.25 a quarter.

If you would like to make one-off calls that are chargeable to your BT bill then simply dial the numbers 1280 before you dial the phone number you wish to call.

I tend to make 6 two second calls when I get my bill so I dont forget and get charged the £5.25 on my next BT bill. :-D

Would I be right in thinking if I wanted to replace my two Sky+ boxes with two Sky HD boxes I'd have two £10 per month HD subscriptions to pay? My Sky+ boxes were working with a Sky World with multiroom subscription before Sky+ subs became free, so I never had to work out if I'd have been charged £10 or 2x£10 for that if I hadn't had a premium channel.

Im not sure how your monthly subscription would work but if I remember rightly you would not get a 2nd HD box for £99, im pretty sure the offer stated that this discounted price was for the 1st HD box only, I could be wrong!
#32
On Nov 21 2007 terrestrial channels (BBC HD, ITV HD, C4 HD and Five HD) have all signed a non-binding MOU that would deliver HD on FREEVIEW by 2012, and quite possibly starting in 2009.

Yes it did state that.I have an existing box and would have another for 100 notes, but sadly not to be.As for the subs,i am pretty sure that 1 sub should cover all boxes in house. Not certain, but that is my perspective on it.
#34
you would have to pay full whack for the second box and a second hd sub. so thats at least £199 for the second box and £20 a month for HD....:-(

I'm not in a BT area (KC in Hull) so I'm gonna go to comet this arvo and see what they have to offer me... any more that £130 they can ram it...

Hi

Just come to this thread, so hope it hasn't been covered elsewhere. I have not got a sub. for Sky and never had, so don't know anything about Sky.

If I go for the Comet deal and pay the £99 + £30 install fee for the HD box. Then I pay the £10 per month HD fee, exactly which Sky TV HD channels do I get for the £10 per month only sub?

Thanks if anyone can clear this up in my mind for me.

Yes I think so, I think if you pay for a channel at the moment that you receive in SD and then you take a HD box and pay £10 p/m subscription you will then receive any of these channels that have a HD equivalent.
#39
off to comet for me then after work

Id wait a little longer as sky has just bought out the company that makes the boxes. So your going to see wicked deals soon.
