Thanks to MSE for this tip. The good folks at Simplify Digital are currently offering £55 cashback if you take up a Sky HD package. Whilst this sounds less than some other cashback deals, it is the only one where you still qualify for the Sky direct offer of 12 months free Line Rental.

So you pay £49 for your box and installation, then you get £55 cashback (£6 profit). You then can choose the minimum HD subscription at £26.25 / month, and this includes your line rental. As line rental costs the same as the HD upgrade and the box is covered by the cashback, you are essentially getting HD for free.

At time of ordering for an extra £5 a month you can add Sky's decent 8MB broadband. Alternatively if you call Sky after ordering you will get 2MB broadband for free, or for £10 a month you can get a true unlimited service. You also get a free WiFi router and McAffee Internet protection Suite (better than Norton) as standard with the Broadband. Finally you also get free evening and weekend calls to landlines as standard.

Great package all in all, if you currently pay around £15 for broadband and £10 for BT line rental it is like getting Sky for free. If you currently pay for standard Sky, then sign up in the wife's name and upgrade to HD for free.

where does this say its for new customers only? Was looking at this earlier when the MSE email arrived and couldn't find anything about new or existing customers.

Simplify Digital's terms for cashback state new customers only. I am pretty sure also that Sky states that on their site when ordering to get the free line rental.

If you are over 12 months I would always call and threaten to cancel anyway. Either they offer you a better deal to stay (half price for 3-6 months is common), or you cancel and get the new subsriber deals in the name of someone else living in the house. Obviously if you live on your own then this suggestion is probably salt in the wound

so what's the score with cancelling my existing sky that's in my name and taking this out in my wifes name?. Will they do that? Would I have to cancel my existing one before ordering this? Would there be a period where we are without sky?

Does your wife have a different surname to you?
If not then I doubt it very much that they will do that.

IF they do let you, you would need to cancel your existing SKY first, so would be without for a few weeks/months. Not worth the interruption IMO.

They spat their dummies out when we tried that a while ago... I wouldn't mind but there was a gap of around 6 months since I canceled, they clearly didn't want to give us the new customer deal. Can't complain too much as it does say in the T&Cs about being Skyless for so long - can't remember how long - before you are classed as new.

I used to work for Sky CS MANY years ago! Simple way to sign up as a new subscriber is to call up and say you have moved house and give them the new address (use a relatives who doesn't have sky). Then call back to cancel the account.

Meanwhile you can then go through the process of opening a new account at your real address. It worked for me in the past but of course their systems may be more clever now!

I'd have a look on the Sky website RE BT line installation. They may well do it for free if it gets you off cable. The £5 internet is indefinate, has been that way for a good while already

Assume its a 12 month contract. Any idea what the penalties (per month) are if you terminate the contract prematurely?

Normally you have to pay off the minimum cost of the contract over that 12 months, as such it is just as well to keep it. If you need to kill the contract to move house you can ask them to install a new dish at the next house for about £60

I've just moved house and signed up with BT as a new customer and was connected for free. I chose their 'weekend plan' which doesn't say anything about a 12 month contract when you sign up. Does anyone know if BT kick up a fuss if you move to the Sky Line Rental? The other options on their website state a 12 month contract but this one doesn't.
#21
If I'm moving house in the next few weeks/months, can I order this now and postpone the start date?
#22
Where does it say £55 cashback on the simplify digital site?
#23
O.K , couldn't find the £55 cashback thing and on MSE it says until the 17th June but rang Simplify and the guy I spoke to said it is still running.

So, I've just ordered SKY HD, 8mb broadband and Sky Talk inc free yrs line rental for £31.25 a month. I'm currently paying £15 to BT and £27 to Tiscali for line rental and broadband/phone calls respectively!

Cheers op - heat added.
