Hi, I have just been to the Hulme ADSA Store in Manchester and they have the sky pay once packages in their clearance centre for £50. I thought the normal £75 price tag was good but reduced to £50 makes it £12.50 a month with no contract and no installation fee.
(I have a photo if anyone can tell me how I put it on here I will)

Here is the sky description:

More than 200 free-to-air digital channels, forever - that's 4 times more than Freeview

More than 60 quality Sky TV digital channels for 4 months (worth £80) with no annual contract

A digital signal - so you can keep receiving TV after your area's analogue signal is switched off

A standard Sky box and minidish for receiving your channels and more - both FREE and fully warranted for 12 months

FREE standard installation and set-up, with no aerial upgrade needed

Once your account's set up, you're free to order optional pay-per-view Sky Box Office movies too. At the end of 4 months, it's your choice. You can keep receiving just the free-to-air channels for no extra cost, in which case you'll need to give us 30 days notice. Or you can keep receiving all these plus the Sky channels for £20 a month

At the end of the 4 months you HAVE to pay for a sky subscription or you cannot use the record facility on the box
#2
But you can still watch all of the free view channels and this is a very cheap way of getting the dish and experiencing sky for a few months without being tied to a contract.
#3
Why the cold votes, people do not seem to understand the voting system. Vote cold if the deal is not good, as this is the cheapest around, I don't understand the cold votes.

Please if you vote cold give a reason as if I can get this cheaper somewhere else, your comments will help.

I've done 4 Pay Once Watch Forever deals, none of them have been Sky Plus included. they've all been normal Sky Digibox, never seen a POWF SkyPlus deal.

If you pair the Sky Subs viewing card+contract to a seperately obtained Sky Plus box THEN cancel your Sky Subs, then yes, recording facility becomes disabled.

The key to this is to ensure you cancel (if you want to that is) the Sky Subs before the 12month contract kicks in, in this case: after 3months.

Knowing how many mixes this Asda deal offers would be nice.

The channels you get on Sky FreeToView (once you cancel Sky Subs and your SkySub viewing card becomes a Sky FTV card):

This deal is not for a Sky+ box it's for the standard digital Sky box with no recording facility anyway.

Indeed.

And for £50, to pay for a Sky Digital Minidish and a Sky Digital Digibox and installation, no reason at all for this to be cold.

I am going back to Asda in a bit so I will read the box and see how many mixes it comes with.

If I'm not too late: ask if it's a nationwide offer or a local branch clearance offer only please :)

I think the OP did not mean to say Sky+ (prob doesn't even know what this means) and was just listing the standard box + 4 months free Sky basic package viewing. After the 4th month you can view all Freesat channels (all BBC, all ITV, all C4 incl. E4 + More4, all C5 incl. Fiver and Five US; basically almost all terrestial Frieview channels) for at least 5 years, without paying a penny to Sky,

Even for £75 this is a good deal because you will get a quad lnb if you aks the installer nicely and can have Freesat for up to 4 boxes in 4 different rooms from the one dish. You don't have to use the sky box at all (just cancel the subscription. Just buy a Freesat box with or without recording and plug it in.

You don't need the sky box plugged into a telephone if you only watch the freesat channels.

To get the same dish installed by a local installer would cost you around £100 and you would have to buy a receiver separately (at least £60). So how can this be a cold deal??
#11
Sorry that was my bad english, I meant + as in additional, not sky+. I have now replaced the + with a & for clarity. It is the standard box, but it is still a superb deal
#12
This is very hot - I got this 6 months ago when Dixons had 10% off so it came to around £65 (inc. some Quidco).

Free install, sat dish, box and 4 months Sky (4 mixes) - how is that cold? Perfect for people who are planning to move to Freesat HD (like I am).

Note that I cancelled my sub on the day of the 4th month - I did this and the guy on the other side of the line said there was a 30 day notice period, but they didn't charge me the full amount for the notice period. So I got a 5th month for 70p (1 day's viewing). Not sure if this will work for everyone, or I just got lucky with the operator :) This was after ringing numerous times to check when to cancel and whether to give 30 days notce - they said that because it's not a proper sub you don't need to give the notice.

I had this last year and worked well for me. I got this offer from local car boot sale or 10 pounds and call sky for the installation. They charged me 25 pounds for the installation. After 3 months I gave 1 month notice to cancel it. I got the 4 mixes free with it. After 2 months I changed my house and thought of giving a try again with the same reference number with the sky. Strangely they accepted it again and I am getting 4 months free now. They charged me 25 pounds for the installation for the second time also. So in total I spend 10+25+25 ... 60 pounds or the 6 months.

This is correct, you do not need to give notice. You can cancel at any time (from the day after installation if you're worried about the deadline).

There are two kind of people who vote this cold: 1. People who hate Murdoch and 2. People who don't understand how Freesat works and think that you can only watch subscription channels with a Sky box. The truth is, you can watch all freeview channels with a Sky box and don't have to pay a penny.

It's when you want free HD broadcast, you would need another Freesat HD box, whether you have FreeSky or Freesat standard box, but the aerial stays the same.

It is confusing for many people because the word "Sky" is often used for Satellit viewing, yet has nothing to do with "Sky Broadcast" which is a subscription broadcast provider.

The correct names are
Freesat = Free digital satellit channels received with a dish from the Astra Satellit 28deg, either through a Freesat standard box or Sky standard box.

Freesat HD = Free digital High Definition & standard satellit channels received with a dish from the Astra Satellit 28 deg through a Freesat HD box

Freeview = Free digital tv channels received via air through a Freeview box.

Sky BB = subscription tv received with a dish from Astra 28 deg.

Once you have a dish installed you can connect either a Sky standard box or a Freesat box or a Freesat HD box to receive all free-to-view channels, which include BBC 1+2+3+4, ITV 1+2+3+4, C4+E4+More4, C5+Fiver+FiveUS, (BBC HD + ITV HD with a HD box) plus many more.

Do you know whether this installation includes a multiple LNB type setup, allowing hookup to the HUMAX Freesat HD PVR at a later stage?

bought this saturday gone at a argos rejects shop stanley co durham for £30 as iam moving in 2 weeks,i already have it at my home now,but where my new house is theres wind farms and they are interfereing with standard tv,so they are paying a company to fit digi boxes (not sky) for free, not quite as many channels but nearer enough.can any one tell me if i could still get the sky pay once package aswell, the dish was fitted monday morning (super quick).would the sky pay once go through the newly fitted digi areil? if not i will go and get my £30 back
#21
we bought this package via Dixons (inc Quidco) @ approx £70 as we wanted to get a dish installed as our freeview reception was pretty terrible, but didnt want to be tied to Sky on a longterm contact, i cant believe people pay £45+ monthly for tele...... when there is now so many free channels to choose from and alot of footy is free too,

it was brilliant we had the free months that came included in the deal, then cancelled before we had to start paying the monthly charges, installation was done within 5 days and we now have a brand new sky box and dish, which i intend to use for freestat aometime in the future and will probably sell the sky box on and hopefully get a fair proportion of the £70 outlay back!

we had to set-up a direct debit to sky as they insisted that you gave them a method from which they collect the monthly subs after the 4th month, even though we had no intention of paying monthly subs, so we used direct debit as our "preferred" method as this is easy to cancel with the bank, whereas if you give them your credit card details you have to rely on sky to not collect anything.............

cant recommend this deal enough - absolute no brainer in my eyes, small outlay for good equipment which is yours to walk away with after 4 months with nothing further to pay and you then only need a freestat receiver, which are dropping in price, if you want to go down that route,

Not all this information is strictly true. You cannot get all freeview channels on a freesat box. There are a lot of freeview channels on freesat that require subscription. For example Virgin1, Dave and many others
#23
Absolute nightmare trying to cancel this, even though I did it in a months advance. Did end up with a months free with all the movie channels too. And a cheque for £19 after nearly a year of phone calls going back and forth with them.

Freeview and free to air are 2 different set ups
You will NOT receive freeview channels on this set up after cancellation
Yoy will receive free to air channels, which does not include channels such as E4.E4+1,More4,Sky SportsNews,Dave and quite a few more

Still a deal though

Looks like a good deal to me.

Can anyone confirm if i'd be able to get sky sports with this?
I presume it'll be extra and if so, how much?

I'm DESPERATE to be able to watch the footy on sky (without being tied into a long contract), and don't really care about all the other channels.

This just seems like it MIGHT be the answer to all my prayers :)

I think Sky still offer the 'Free for life' card for £20.
Got sky dish & box from Freecycle (Free but often in classifieds for £15 - £20) and put it up myself using a tuner from Lidl (Cost £4).

£25 all in for us cheapskates and no hassle from Sky.

£50 still good to save all the time & trouble.

Is it nationwide? Anyone know yet?
#27
just to note , there a a firmware which u can obtain that gives sky+ facilitys on a sky freeview card

Probally not for the noobiest of users , but its totally possible
#28
Voted hot ONLY as it's a great way to rip off Murdo$h.

I did it to get the dish and installation to keep forever to use on Freesat. You get 4 months of $ky free (worth about £80 - I use the term worth loosely), a nice(?) new Sky (standard Box) and viewing card to keep forever (to watch Free to Air) or sell on for about £20+. So you're in profit before you start.

You dont sign a contract so you can tell $ky where to stick it before they start charging you and go get yourself a nice shiny HD Freesat Box.

Of course you can stick with $ky if you want but Jeremy Duroch, their MD, was recently proudly boasting that the average spend per $ky viewer is £444 per year. I'd rather keep that in my wallet and use it towards a nice holiday thank you.
#29
Can someone explain some technical details to me?
If I bought this and the Sky installer put on a quad LNB, how many cables would he run in to the house? I want to move to the HUMAX Freesat HD PVR but that needs two inputs, via two cables to utilise all functionality (I know you get some from 1 cable via a feed through cable).

Thanks,

Bunnster
#30
Right, this is essentially a 4month Sky Subscription (which automatically turns into 12month contract unless you cancel it at the right time) install for a single normal Sky Digibox.

So you get:

1 Mini Dish Install
1 LNB Feed (NOT suitable for Sky+/HD)
1 Sky Digibox Install/Setup

For a PVR with 2+inputs required will need a dual lnb feed, which can come from a quad lnb which the Sky installer has no need to use, so he won't...

He did it free for me. As he was getting the equipment out the van I made him a cup of tea with biscuits and asked him how much it cost to upgrade to Sky+ in the future as I really, really wanted to have that soon

He went back to the van and got out a QUAD LNB instead and ran two cables into my house :)

Now I'll just wait a year or two until Freesat is worth the purchase.
#32
Also, we already have a dish (new house, previous owner) single LNB and cable, so maybe he will put up a second dish and cable (SKY+ or freesat pvr then) or maybe just change and run a new cable....

God i wish people would get there facts right before posting on Forums:

http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/faqs-pay-once.aspx#q6

Q: If I continue receiving Sky’s Entertainment Packs, will there be a 12-month contract?
A: No, you will pay the subscription for your package monthly and you will not be subject to a minimum subscription period. Please note, you will need to give 30 day’s notice if you wish to cancel your subscription at any time.

Why are people mentioning HD?, HD is not possible with this box......voted hot as its still a bargain.

People are mentioning HD because, although you dont get $ky HD with this, you only need to swap the box over, to get Freesat or FTA HD without subscription. A Humax HD Freesat (non-PVR) box can be had for only £89.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/334048/humax-foxsathd-g-freesat-satellite-/

Freesat dish installation is £75+ and independant would not be far off so this is a hot way to get an instalation that COULD ultimately give you HD* without subscription.

That is the very reason I did it.... A cheap first step to getting Free HD TV as I didnt already have a dish installed. :)

* (Currently only BBC HD, ITV HD and LuxeHD)

It says in their terms that if you already have the equipment it's up to them to re-use if needed. It saves the instalation guy work (and he may well sell the dish on and make money on the side) so that will be their leaning.

If you already have the dish, you could swap the LNB yourself for a Quad and run the dual cable down. Or if you speak sweetly to the guy he may well swap the LNB for a Quad if the dish is there already and run a dual cable down (that's what I got them to do).

You dont get Sky Sports with this packeage just 4 entertainment mixes free for 4 months.

As I'm not ,and never want to be, a $ky customer I suspect you'd have to sign some sort of 12 month contract to get Sky sport. As far as I am aware Sky Sport has never been free. If this is the case I suspect (Not 100% sure) one of the other many Sky 12 month deals would be better value if you dont mind getting locked in for that long.

No Doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :)

THis is a very cheap and easy way of getting the freeview channels +

Trying getting someone to install a freeview arerial on its own and see how much that costs and what about sites that still get a **** freefiew digital. This is a bargain IMO providing you cancel the sub before the sky sub kicks in (unless you want it that is)
