i read it somewhere that sky are moving ALL on their broadband customers to 7.50 package including 'BASE' BB.
it is worth giving them a call after 1 June to make sure you on the correct package.

I got a letter about this around 2 weeks ago. I'm currently about 3 months into a "6 months free, 6 months @ £10" 20mb deal. The letter said after 1st June I could save £2.50 a month if I agreed to sign up to a new 12 month contract.

I am with Virgin.net broadband currently (down the BT line 8MB) It costs me 17.99 a month and is ok though not brill. The fastest d/load speed i've seen is about 900kb/s though this is rare.
I want to change to Sky 20Mb but i am nervous about the quality (speed etc). Should i stick with the devil i know?

That will be because you are NOT in a Sky ULL area, where Sky has their own connections within the exchange. I'm the same as you, I don't get any of thier broadband offers and I've been with them for 10 years..lol

I wouldn't say it's normal, but there are so many influences that trying to get an accurate figure is very hard. I suppose Sky would argue that anything above 2mb would be deemed acceptable, and probably is..

+1

OP = you should amend the first post to let people know that this is only the case if you agree to sign up for another 12 months.

Also, for people on the £5 package, their BB will be going UP £2.50 to £7.50.

All come down to were you live and how far you are away from the exchange.

On the sky website put you post code in and it should tell you what speed on avg you should get, but they should of told you what kind of speed you get before you signed up.

Sky employ dynamic line management on new connections - your connection speed starts off slow and should get automatically adjusted over the first couple of weeks - this process can go wrong, so if the speeds arn't what was predicted for your line after a couple of weeks you'll have to contact sky.

Your eventual speed will depend on the length of the phone line to the exchange, and the condition of your phone line, and also on any phone extension wiring you have in your house.

If you have any phone extensions (regardless of whether a phone is plugged in to them or not), disconnecting the ring wire, or fitting a filtered faceplate, or iplate can often make a considerable improvement. See:- http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm
