They aren't free if you left Sky but still access all the free-to-access channels through the Sky Box!

My controller has a few dodgy buttons so I think this is a great deal. Thanks.

Is this remote the genuine Sky+ one or a Generic copy. I have the copy one and its fine but they dont last as long as the ones that you get from sky.

They are not free from Sky if you don't subscribe to their over priced rubbish TV packages.

These are just cheap copies of the original aren't they, I'm sure I've seen this item posted many times before, and then the comments appear later after people had received them that they are not like the original.

my sky remote works but because its an older version I cant control my tv with it. Makes this even cheaper as I can flog the old one once I get this, hot from me

Anyone know of one that controls the Tesco TV's ?

True, but then you would not need the equiptment that they provided and installed for free either
as you would not expect sky to give you a new box if yours broke,

the point being made earlier was that if you were a sky subscriber, they should replace it for you for free,
some people were not aware of that,

thats all!

Hmm, wonder if one of these + an IR dongle would make a good xbmc remote... :{
#22
Sky do not give out replacements free unless you started your subscription within the last year (Im just off the phone to them - dialed 150, option 2, then option 1)

I just called as my 0 button and yellow button have been dodgy for a while. I have had my HD box and remote since 2009 and they tell me that it is out of warranty so it will be £28 for a new one.....

Call them back and say you want to cancel sky because you cannot watch with your broken remote,,,
then sit back and wait for the free one in the post to keep you as a customer... 8)

I would but I took out a new contract back in March with 6 months half price so they won't let me cancel without telling me about a massive premium they would charge me - thanks for the tip though

Wish I'd known about this before! No longer have a sky subscription!

Thus good for those without sky subscription.

Would never buy another Sky Plus remote from that site.. Last one i got was cheap crap and never worked at all.. was the same for most people on here.

Well I've been using mine for a few days and its every bit as good as the official remote that accompanied the Sky HD box.
#31
The remote itself works fine, but the rubber coating on the back of battery compartment peels off very quickly making it feel rather "lumpy" to hold. The plastic under the cheap rubber is blue so it will look and feel crap after a few weeks/months.
#32
i got £30 credited to my account when i complained to sky about better deals for new customers ect.
And told them i was going to virgin.
But its not the same as a free remote.
Just a good will gesture

Oooooh annoyance!

Our down and play/pause button has been dodgy for some time so when I saw this thread I thought I'd have a go at phoning the number and getting a replacement... (BTW 080005125997 is no longer active, the number is now 08442 411 735)

Got hold of a chap who clearly was not in the UK - I don't want to make this a racial thing but I had difficulty understanding him and he had difficulty understanding me which did not help at all. I insisted that the function was nothing to do with the TV and it worked fine other than the down and play/pause button when interacting with the Sky+ system, he nevertheless made me reset the remote and input the TV code and then announced "your remote is working correctly now". I said "yes, apart from the down and play/pause button". Further argument ensued with him basically saying the remote was fine and the problem was with the TV, the only way he could prove the remote was at fault was if he could wipe the Sky+ planner (hell no!) and as I wouldn't let him do that he concluded that the problem was definitely with the TV and would not send out a replacement remote.

7dayshop may cost me £6.43 but it's a whole lot less stress. Thanks OP.

Husband is on the phone to sky now .......... and has asked to be put through to the cancellation department ........ they have refused to send us a free remote but after some heated words from hubby after being on hold for over half an hour and threatening to cancel the subscription they have credited our account with £25 (with which we can order a new remote at £14.99) and will give us 25% off our monthly bill for the next 6 months.
#35
Giving sky some hell definitely gets you somewhere if your prepared to hold your ground.

My mothers sky box went down - they wanted her to pay for a replacement but we refused.Told them we were cancelling subscription
- they soon provided replacement box.

They dont like giving anything away - but their not stupid - they make so much out of the subscriptions plus they are getting more competitors
such as Virgin & BT, freesat etc which will make them more nervous in how they treat current customers.

If your really unhappy cancel - then wait a few months for them to come back with a great offer - they will and there's a good chance that deal would be a cheap HD box upgrade.

Not true, some of the older Sky Remotes will not function with some newer TV's.

Correct... I cant see where these are free either ! Do you not need to pay Sky every month some crazy fee ?

I left Sky 4 years back and just use the box as a freeview box as we have no normal set top box freeview....

So very HOT from me....

Not sure about this, never had a problem yet with a bit of trail and error...

My old 10 year old Sky remote tuned in after the 4th attempt to my new £199 Alba 32'' LCD.... (Just last week) A lot of people dont even try all the codes.... Here is the current list....
