If the equipment is free, the subscription is free and the installation is free, what is the £45 for?
#2
Do you need a phone line for these?
Edit: Just re-read it

Bought freesat from Sky for the Mother in Law for Xmas two years ago.Cancelled in time.
We had threatening letters from Skys debt collection company for months. It took many, many phone calls to Sky and the debt company to sort. Then last week she had a cold call on her answer phone (which we only fitted because of this problem) saying could they speak to "the Sky customer account holder" Its been a complete nightmare.
#4
Daft question but does it come with a STB in the box (in case you've already got a dish up?) Or is it just a way of getting £75 (£45) off you for a leaflet to set it up?

How long will this last? I am looking to buy a new house in the next 6 months, can i buy it now and not order til then?
#8
ok, But I would rather just get normal freesat I think.
#9
This would be perfect for me, but I dont think they will have it nationwide :(
#10
i would have thought you would be tied into a 12 month contract i got one like this from tesco a few years back for about £10 and that was a 12 month contract.

I quit Sky because it cost me £6.90 to telephone them with a complaint.
#13

A WORD OF WARNING!

I work for an electrical retailer (lets not put names in here) and we got an e-mail from head office saying that we had to destroy these boxes and ALL POS with the product on it as Sky would no longer be accepting the blue boxes for setting up a system with them...

Just watch what you are doing when you buy the box as sky may just say no!

When the sky engineer fitted sky+ 2 years ago he didn't set up the phone line properly ( had to put a code in ), so sky charged us over £108 over 4 months, just taking the money from my account without sending a letter or phoning.
When i complained, more money wasted, they said they would put a £50 credit on my account.
I cancelled straight away and now have freeview and see movies and sport online. Sky are a bunch thieves.
#19
Cracking deal, everything installed and setup for 45 quid.... be honest, you cant go wrong. After 4 months cancel and plug a freesat box in. Sorted!

Incidentally, it costs 80 upwards for JUST the freesat dish installation etc so this with 4 months viewing is a cracker :w00t:

Sky are a bunch of *****, granted....
#20
I recently got this including the 4 mixes, was not asked for c/card when phoned. 2 weeks after I got a letter with a d/d form. Sent back saying I'll fill in after we decide to keep the mixes, all mixes stopped within a week. Got another letter today reminding about the d/debit. Replied with comment about not filling in D.D as they've stopped the mixes. Will see what happens next.

The deal is true and it worked for me in the past. I took it from asda and called them to install, they did and I enjoyed for 4 months and I cancelled it.
really a good price now
#23
Remember, its Sky you will be dealing with not Asda
#24
Guys, please note that this is not a 'Sky installation bitchin' thread. So, don't make ridiculous posts about how Sky ripped u off 15 years ago for installation! :x Stick to the topic.

I was thinking about having a free fix to my NO SATELLITE SIGNAL RECEIVED issues using this offer but will's post made me dump the idea. :p
#25
can recommend, we paid £70 via dixons a year ago and got a brand new box and installation,
sky must use this as a deal to entice people who may subscribe after the initial 3 month period finishes

you have to set up a method at the outset with which to pay after the 3 months finishes regardless of whether you intend to or not

would therefore suggest you set up to pay by direct debit so YOU can cancel, whereas with a standing order or credit card you are relying on sky to honour your instructions not to pay

we took this out because our freeview reception was so poor and it was cheaper than gettinga new areial,

as we set up a direct debit we cancelled in time and paid nothing else, we have had a few phone calls mainly about taking out a warranty for the equipment

can thoroughly recommend - a bargain

Yeah i work for a high street electrical retailer and we were told to destroy these as sky were no longer accepting them

That'll do it for me then. Don't buy it. That's two people (possibly from the same high street retailer) telling you what we've been told. Don't get it.

Surely if you do buy one and Sky refuse to honour it, you just return it for a refund?

Not if you've oppened the box.

Doesn't matter if you've opened the box if it's worthless.

They are still offering it on their website so why should they refuse it if you have one of these??

NOT correct. Your point of sale (ASDA) is your legal contract according to consumer law.
#33
I can't imagine Asda would continue selling these if they can't be used.

Quite simply in the box you get a code. You ring the activation line with the code and at this point Sky ask all your details to set up an account and DD. You agree a timefor an installer to bring a new Sky box and install a single lnb and cable. Seperately you receive your Sky card. When the installer leaves it should all be up and running. The install is a bit cheep and cheerful, cable straight through the wall, quite thin cable (but adequate), phone line installed, standard dish.

The package is the pay now watch forever. It's not free at all, and Sky don't claim it to be. You get 4 months from the box and then Sky start charging you. If you cancel you continue to receive all the free to air channels but none of the encrypted channels. You need to cancel after 3 months.

One option if you can pull it off would be to get the Sky installer to give you two lnbs and cables. This would prepare you for 1) Being able to use a Sky Plus box - acquire your own and call Sky and they will activate it for free (but on their records it will look like they have supplied you the box should you ever try to get one from them again) 2) If you cancel Sky, you can use the double cabling to get a Freesat HD recording box like the Humax. The installer doesn't have to give you double cables, it's not part of the deal. You will have to tap him up. In my case I had Sky years ago and had a better quality dish, a good uality cable already in place, a telephone line and kept him happy with tea and a chat so he was happy to do another cable run and a few modifications rather than having to do the whole installation.

Hopefully this is informative to anyone considering the package. I got the deal package for £35 a few months ago and picked up a Plus box from a friend. Plus is a big bonus. Sky is a bit rubbish though and I tend to watch the Freeview channels this way and use the Plus recorder. The Sky stuff is mainly repeats, old or US crap and after a few weeks the novelty wears off, especially in the summer when there are better things to do.

I don't know about issues with cancelling Sky.
#34
I just dont get it. Your only going to get freeview channels so why not just get a freeview box for far less money?

You can get free installation if you sign up to sky.

It all seems a bit pointless really.
#35
We live in an area where the freeview reception is carp and every time my daughters phone activates (and thats a lot) we lose the signal. That and every time a car goes by. This installation is a godsend for people like us who don't want to be tied into Sky.
#36
Freeview boxes are cheap £15-£20 but you will need an aerial installation £100+.
#37
Been reading all the posts....this IS a good deal. It was £75 and i "enrolled" at that. You get 4 months free limited trial of some basic Sky 'packages' (packages can include Kids channels), Sky dish installed, Sky basic box (NOT + or HD). The Sky installer will tell you that you need to leave phone connected (but if you ask him why he'll say..."after i install it, just unplug the 'phone").
A great benefit to those with poor reception........great picture quality........when you *cancel you'll get FREEVIEW through Sky box (still great picture)....another benefit is that, if FREESAT continues, you can link up a FREESAT BOX to your dish!!! No need for an expensive new one!

*DOWNSIDE :w00t::x:w00t: = you must Direct Debit/ CCard to get instalment arranged.....you must 'phone Sky (BUT USE www.saynoto0870.co.uk to get an alternative 01506-xxxxxx number or get foreign call centre at great expense!!!)....YOU MUST CANCEL YOUR DD and TELL SKY withing the first 3 months (it's free for 4 months...get in early)!
I cancelled and still got numerous WARNING letters and DEBT COLLECTORS threats despite Sky telling me to ignore them! No apology came from Sky but they admitted "if you cancel within the 4 months THERE IS NO CONTRACT"(the call centre will tell you that you are on a 12 month contract....LIES!!!). :viking:
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#38
you dont get all the freeview channels with sky. ie dave is on freeview but not part of the free channels on sky

Where I live there is no freeview and as I understand there are no plans to provide it, if I want digital television satalite is my only option. yes I could a get a (BBC) freesat box but I would have to pay for a satalite dish to be installed plus the cost of the box, so this is a bargain.

I purchased this package for my Grandad 12 months ago as he was strugling to get even a decent analogue signal and its been brilliant, I'm sure others have had problems cancelling and I was expecting the worst, but its been fine no problems what so ever, one phone call to activate one phone call 3 months later to cancel.

Just make sure you cancel at least 30 days before the 4 months is up and if possible book on a CC so you can get CC company involved if they debit your card

I feel i must put my sky experiance across ,

I agreed a package with sky 3 years ago around £15pm , however it was cancelled by sky and i was put on their top package by sky , without being informed :x , when i checked my bank balance i was shocked ,

When i called them to cancel they told me it would cost another months subs to cancel !!!

It took many letters etc etc , to complain and get it stopped

I vowed since then never to go back to sky, EVER !!!! !!!
