How it works:

You get a letter within 2 weeks with a special code from Sky.
You call Sky to activate that code and arrange an install date, on this date an engineer installs a Sky MiniDish, Sky Digibox and hooks it up to a phone line

And voila you are in a 4month contract on 4mixes which cost you nothing on the direct debit they will setup, come month 3 though unless you wish to start a new contract with them you MUST cancel the service giving the 30days notice over the phone.

Ie if your installation is May 1st, then you hit 3months on July 31st so you must give notice on or just before this date so that come September 1st you don't start a new 12month contract.

Other than that you get 4months of 4mixes for 4months, and Free Sky Free To View "Forever" once you cancel at 4months which is what your viewing card will turn into once they terminate Sky Pay TV channels if you cancel.

If you want to blag a double/quad lnb (multiple feeds from the Minidish) upon installation I'd try and get it installed in another room where your current Sky Dish lead goes to (if you have a Sky Minidish, most will) also leaves you the option to get a Digibox in a 2nd location etc.

Hmm. Sky suddenly reducing the price of their free option. Could someone remind me when freesat is set to go live, with a range of free HD channels :) Granted, it won't have 200+ channels, but I'd rather have free HD than a load of shopping channels.

yer i have sky and i really dont know why i pay them cause there nothing on sky 1 no more except cheap repeats and odd old film and re runs............... its overpriced it seems they should drop price or make multi room and HD free of charge instead of extra payments on top as it dont seem to be value for money no more.

Can anyone say if this can be used with a cable phone setup? I am fed up with the rotten service from Virgin Media but I haven't got a BT line.
#6
I got one of these at xmas for a friend who doesnt have a phone line.

Sky didnt have any option like the NPL then, so is this new??

I had to take it back to argos who were propper SH***Y about refunding it, but they did in the end.

so now there is no need for a phone line?? allbeit an extra 25 quid. hmm still cheaper than getting a virgin media phone line and tv on top if you work it out...

Can you confirm about the not having a phone line thing anywhere, is there a web page with the details anywhere??

I suspect I might be wrong about that and it ONLY applies to normal Sky 12month contracts as there is no phone line mentioned on these deals where as with Sky direct there is. Personally I think it's best to let them hook up the phone line if you have a line, then just disconnect it after a few days.

Yes thats the problem, there is no phone line at her house. so they wouldnt honnour the box i had bought as they said they needed a phone line for the box to be plugged in to.

The digital reception in her area is non existant, analogue well even worse, it is possible to get digital tv through ntl with a phone line from them but thats a contract which is completly different than buy now watch for ever.

This box from sky was such a good thing when i saw it but untill i phoned them and found out they wouldnt do it without a landline at the property, they cant provide one i'd have to get a bt or virgin one then phone back up.

BTW if your box is opened for you to get the code nearly everywhere will NOT refund the cost of it if the seal is broken. Argos had to phone and check with sky on my bloomin mobile that i hadnt used the code before refunding me!!

Now theres mention of an extra charge for a NPL well, is that true or not??

I think i best phone them again.

I think Freesat are launching in a couple of months time. Expect to see Sky giving away membership with cash incentives soon.

what sky need to do is make multi room free and HD free too, also lower the price of the complete package as its extortionate now. Also sky should offer long time existing customers free sky+ boxes yes free as of the moment you have to pay full price for one, where as if you are new joining with a friend you an friend get one free where does that make sense??? i hope this competition lowers sky prices or makes them offer free multi room an HD.

About the 'free' channels from Sky! I have had been using "freesat from sky" for the last few years. Please be aware that they don't broadcast certain good (and free) entertainment channels such as E4 and Dave. You have to be subscribed to Sky to get some channels that are available on freeview. I phoned up and complained about this, and got some fob-off about the channels not actually being free. Two days later I got a phonecall from Sky offering me cut-price sky subscription for a year (what a coincidence ;) ... so I went out and bought a freeview box instead.

Looks like it could well be WEEK 18 of 2008 according to the ticker-tape headline on the Astra website.

I have bought one of these sky packs as I'm convinced that this will be the cheapest way to get installation of the needed dish and to give me something to watch until then.

Now the site says May 5th

so if you get this package from sky, will you still have to pay for freeview equipment when it launches or will you be able to get it through your current box and dish???

Depends if I understand the question you are asking. You say freeview not freesat. Let me answer both questions if I can...

Freesat (BBC/ITV satalite service launching in May): The existing sky dish will work according to their (freesat) website however you will need a new box in your living room to view the freesat programs.

Freeview (digital programs received via your aerial): Many of these programs will also be available on freesat and on "free" sky transmission. If you sign up for this pay once watch forever package you get sky's extra channel packages for a number of months. If you choose not to continue with the extra packages, you can continue to receive free to air programs that are broadcast through the sky dish without further charge.

If I misunderstood your question, please let me know.
