dont know if they have improved their customer services, but got this for my mum christmas 2007 and spent 7 months trying to cancel, made dozens of phone calls, wrote letters sent emails etc, then found out that you dont have to register your bank details at all, just make the point that its pre paid, and the 4 months are gratis so no card details would be needed.

I got this about 3 months ago, v quick installation. I dont have landline so they told me if I dont get one in 6 weeks they would charge me a fee (25 i think). Nothing charged yet. They do ask for credit card or direct debit details. Good deal as the chanels themselves would cost you around 80 for 4 months.

Once the sky dish is installed and then service cancelled, am i correct to say you can use the same dish to connect freesat (HD freeview)?

Great deal, does anyone know if this deal is nationwide?
#6
Good deal. Heat added.

No. It's ASDA. :w00t:

All of these offers will be store specific.

So this can't be ordered for installation in a nearby area, as I know someone that would be interested?
#8
Does anyone know if you get Sky 1 after the 4 months period?
#9
If I get this will I count as a new customer for future promotions? Also, do you actually get the box in store or just the card for the install - I already have a sky point in the flat.

To the next poster about Sky One.... No you wont receive it after 4 months - unless you pay a subscription (or pirate it!!!)

I dont know many Pirates round here (too far from the sea i expect) so looks like i will have to subscribe!!

Yes. But not with the receiver they supply. You would need to use an alternative HD receiver to get HD channels. A standard sky box with only receive SD channels. That's what you will be supplied with.

I understand that bit already, just need to know if the sky dish will require adjusting to different angle to pickup different satellite signals for Freesat.

Yes. There wouldn't be a problem for you going into the Stockport ASDA and placing an order. They won't do it over the phone though.

Can you really get a pirate Sky Digital Card?
#16
Can't find this on your link, tried putting it on the search option on the ASDA site but to no avail. :?

As far as I know Sky digital has never been cracked.
#18
Sky are replacing all the encryption cards so if you don't subscribe to SKY then the cards that come with these will become obsolete,,,, £20ish to replace I think???? Double check the card situation with the agent or SKY. Worth keeping that in mind if you plan to cancel after four months. No you can't get hacked SKY cards.
#19
you could mod old sky boxes but that was over 10 years ago... the smartchip sky card is uncrackable... only ntl boxes are still around which i know can be / are chipped and still working (on virgin media now mind)

all in all this deal is HOTTTTTTTT

u get a dish AND its installed on your house... for £45 quid all in!

the skybox and 4 months basic paid viewing is just a bonus in my eyes... after which i would most likely replace with a cheap freesat box off ebay...

Agreed,

I have heard many tales of folk being supplied with a 'funny' sky card and therefore having so called 'free' sky.

Never ever met anyone who does actually have it!
Never ever met anyone who say they have had it!

Maybe I am mixing in the wrong / right circles :?

I went down and got one of these. Just a heads up, they are in the sale section, not the regular electronics one. They had around 20 left an hour or so ago.

One thing though, that store needs to have bloody amazing deals to get anyone in there: that has to be the worst shop I've ever been in!
#24
I don't believe it will need adjusting as they are on the same satellite range.

When you say 20 left, what are you actually physically buying ?

Anyone thinking of buying purely for a cheap dish install for Freesat, might want to consider bunging the installer an extra £10 to fit a Quad LNB. I don't think the standard install comes with a quad, but this varies from installer to installer. Worth doing if only to put the sky box on ebay after a four months to fund a Humax HD.

It's just a DVD size box which has a unique number in it that you call Sky with. The installer brings the box etc I presume.

Thanks... called Stockport at 17:30... all sold out !

Sky takes a belt and braces approach to security. They use the most upto date encryption available to them and they obviously feel the need to upgrade.

I bought this for £75 two months ago basically JUST to get a dish so i could hook up my HD Freesat box (no intentions of keeping the Sky subsription going after the 4 months) - You dont need to bung the installer any money at all...just ask him nicely that you may well be upgrading to a Sky HD+ recorder box in future (blatant lie! haha) so is there any chance he can fit a double or quad lnb and double cabling - i asked nicely and he fit it for me without a quarm - i asked how much he wanted extra and he just said "Its not my cable mate its Skys so it doesnt matter to me, its no extra" - I now have sky and Freesat in the lounge utilising the double cabling and this weekend im fitting another cable from the lnb into the bedroom as ive sourced a cheap 2nd Sky box.

This is by FAR the cheapest way of getting Freesat - the instalation for the dish alone in Argos is £80 and thats not even with the dish!!!

I got the Instalation and dish for £75, got the Freesat HD Box 2nd hand off Ebay for £60 so for £135 i got a total set up.....to do this through Freesat would cost over £200 PLUS you get 4 months worth of Sky channels worth £70 AND a Sky box you could flog for £35 too if you wanted to !!

Interesting, there certainly didn't seem to be any interest in them when I was there at about 5pm. It's possible they looked in the wrong section. It took me AGES to find them because they were with a load of clearance items in the gardening section! Fortunately I found an assistant who knew where they were in the end.

This is a no brainer if you need an installation for Freesat.

You get the dish, installation, basic sky box and card to keep forever for free (or sell) and 4 basic mixes of Sky free for 4 months worth approx £70.

Cancel Sky 1 month before the 4 months is up, get yourself a Freesat HD box and make a profit out of Murdo$h for a change.

Ditto the above posts about installation. Try and can get the installer to fit a quad lnb and twin cable ( they might do it for free or charge £20 or so) then you can use a freesat PVR or have multiroom facilities.

Thanks mate, will try again

Edit... Right called again, asked the guy to check around the Garden / clearance area... low and behold ~16 boxes on the shelf ! Thanks That_Bloke + OP for your help

Had the same problem, countless phone calls over about 10 months and every time the same rubbish. Called a month before the 4 months were up to cancel and was told i'd already been billed for the 5th month. Guy told me to just cancel it with my bank and it would be fine. If only. After about 25 phone calls back and forth explaining the situation every single time and them assuring me it was sorted, I'd only get another letter in the post asking for the £19. Even once sorted I just cancelled the whole thing, such stress.

If you have trouble cancelling just politely and firmly email Sky's MD Jeremy Darroch (I have his and other directors email addresses - pm me if any one needs them,)

There is a seperate department set up to deal with complaints addressed to the top bosses. They did the job for me and I was given a real person and name to deal with everytime I needed to contact them.

Sky have received some very bad national press (Guardian/BBC R4 to mention a few) in the past trying to fleece little old ladies into 12 month contracts on the back of the Digial Switchover in the Borders.

Most staff arent clued up on this product and dont understand that you have never entered into a Sky 12 month contract but just a 4 month free trial.

EDIT: Still worth it, as at £45 this is a steal... (out of Murdo$h's deep pockets)

Call Sky (08442-411-654) & quote the reference number located in your pack to book installation. You'll need your credit card/Direct Debit details ready - this allows you to order Pay Per View movies & events & continue to watch Sky TV at the end of the 4 months.

Beginning to think its not worth the hassle :whistling:
