  im sure that if you can prove you collect rain water from your gutters then you get a discount on your water bill as they dont charge you the full drainage costs, something like that

  I think you are confusing this, it means no surface water down the sewers so if your house has soakaways (like most houses built since the sixties) no water goes to sewage so you can still apply for a reduction, nothing to with water butts really

  Nice find. Also worth checking if your council is able to provide you with things like compost bins or water butts at reduced rate. In my case it is admittedly more expensive than the one here but(t) may be worth pestering your council.

  As far as I'm aware these are nearly always this price. From time to time Argos must increase the price so that they can claim the normal price is a reduction. They are readily available at other suppliers for a similar price but bear in mind it's only 100L, which doesn't go far in a dry spell.

  With regard to surface water charges;
  If your a Thames Water customer and can prove that your gutter water does not drain into the sewer then you may be entitled to claim a rebate (£23) off your future water bills, it's also back dated. So if like me you have a large water butt and the over flow is piped to the end of the garden and drained into the earth you could save around £50 pounds a year, hey and it's good for the environment and the local water table.
  It's worth a try.
