Would Vista be okay with just the 512 ram Mike...would make a nice starter PC for a youngster.
[mod]#3
Vista basic would be ok twinkle as it has no aero graphics to slow it to a crawl. An extra 512meg wouldnt go amiss though if its found cheap enough as even kids want several windows open at once ;-)

I think this could be a m*spr*ce caused by the monitor upgrade across other machines in the range, note the picture shows no monitor although it's definitely included.

I've just noticed, if you add XP to the end of the evalue code it specifies XP instead of Vista, which makes it an even better deal in my opinion. :whistling:
[mod]#5
Welcome back Pete ;-)

Pity its the only ecode of this weeks deals that I listed that can be forced to offer XP instead. Good spot though you crafty devil!
[mod]#6
So want it with XP instead? then Go to deal
#7
when you are on the Dell site, how do you get to desktop with XP instead of Vista? Everytime I look at one it comes with Vista and I can only find the XP going via Mike's link (I may be getting one for a friend and want to go via Quidco)
[mod]#8
click to dell main page from your quidco sign in, look down the left sidebar for shop by ecode and enter 305 in the first box and D03C11AXP in the second box with NO leading or trailing spaces.
That should work fine.

This does look tempting for my parents. Just what would this configuration be up to?

My own PC is only an Athlon XP 2100+ with 512MB of RAM so I assume this is way better?

And I can do Photoshop and Illustrator etc on mine...

And are the value monitors any good?

And one final question, sorry, if I go for XP is there a free upgrade path to Vista?

Cheers ;o)

The other Evalue Code deals available to purchase with XP are as follows:

D03X21XP
D03X21aXP

D03C11aXP
D03C12XP
D03C13aXP

D03E01XP
D03E02bXP
D03E03XP
D03E12XP

D03921aXP
D03922XP

Thanks for these wizmark:thumbsup:

I honestly dont know if this would be better than your XP2100+

Value monitors are fine, I have a 19" one here.

Not sure on the upgrade path, there should be, but you are electing to go for XP when Vista is being offered, the upgrade path was for customers buying before it was available on the Dell site.

Thanks for the reply MikeT.

Not much comment on this deal, but with a 17inch monitor and double the hard drive to 160Gb for £269 (minus quidco) it looks a good deal to me.

i think ought you would barely notice a difference on this over your machine, but still a good deal, only thing is i dont understand how they can sell units with 512mb ram and vista installed,it must crawl, reminds me of when xp became populkar and oems still only supplied 256 or even 128 mb.

truly pc's must be the only item on the market that dont actually work out of the box.

but my point is can anyone with a dell please tell me if they are security sealed as item is fine but i would have to add extra 512 stick but would not like to void warranty thanks

can you get a single stick (from Crucial/eBuyer) that would run ok as a matched pair?? (i.e. and get full dual memory controller benefits)

can you get a single stick (from Crucial/eBuyer) that would run ok as a matched pair??
No. A matched pair is specifically picked from the same batch, tested, and packed together.
and get full dual memory controller benefits
Yes. Any two same-sized sticks of RAM will give you dual channel.

how long does it usually take for a dell purchase to track with quidco?

Thanks
#18
Good question, 1 took 24 hours and another has not tracked yet....7 days ago....can take up to 30 days I think.

Offer Now £269 with 1gig ram

Is there a code anywhere for first time buyers at Dell.

I'm sure I saw something on here recently about one.

Thanks
