Seem like a good deal. Have some heat and rep. May I suggest that you put the price and name of retailer in the title. You just need to click on the edit button to make alterations to your post.

It will be region free the last tevion I bought was & yes it will play DIVX-XVID as it says so in the weekly book also it plays directly from the USB which a few simular players don't.

many thanks for the link

May just be worth noting it doesn't say it has a digital output for Dolby Digital/DTS sound but for the kids bedroom a great buy !!! . Hell i'm a picky sod  .
#10
Bah would have been nicer if it had an HDMI and upscaled.
Even just an HDMI without the upscaling would been better than scart.

I just went and bought one, doesn't mention divx etc on the box, will be testing it in 30 mins or so. If it doesn't play divx/xvid then it can go back under the 30 day money back guarantee. Main thing I'm hoping is for divx/xvid playback from USB as I wouldn't have to burn any dvds again or convert video etc. Might be hoping for too much at this price though.

If possible my friend, let us know if it is region free.
#16
You more than likely will need to reformat the memory stick to FAT32 but other than that it should run divx off the stick easy.
#17
Would anyone be able to tell me if this will also run divx off an external hard drive?

MPEG4 is not XVid, but I'm hoping it will play XVid.

Plays dvix/xvid no prob from disc. Nice menus etc. Using 16GB flash drive formatted to FAT32, Plays divx/xvid no prob from USB drive and doesn't appear to stutter. So if you have an external HD formatted to FAT32 it should work fine. I can't test region free as i don't have any non UK region DVDs.

Cheers mate!

so basically it's playing anything you throw at it off a fat32 usb pen?
#22
Yup it does indeed seem to play anything divx/xvid from usb and dvd, definitely must be FAT32, I tried NTFS from pen drive and it didn't work. Anyone know if these type of players can power an external 2.5" external HD, as that would be great. It seems a lot of 2.5" players don't have an external power option. A 320GB 2.5" would be perfect with this player as long as it could be powered ok.

Good price for xvid but that fact it's scart kills it for me and only 2.1 channel stereo output is a major killer too. For a kids room it's a good player for the money. The one I posted for £29.99 at Lidl coming up this Thursday has HDMI and does 5.1, don't know if it plays xvid yet but can be returned if not.

I've got 2 Silvercrest ones from Lidl and neither is very good. It's hit and miss whether they will play the files. I wish I'd taken them back and got a refund. I've also got a Targa one that will play anything. I got that from Lidl before the Silvercrest ones.

Here's a list of I/O connectors on the back : Component, S-Video, SCART, left/right audio and composite. Lastly it has an optical toslink connector.

Is the remote control any good?
Is it responsive from different angle?
Thanks.

Well to answer your question regarding the remote control, my experience is of course purely subjective. I'm sitting about 8 feet away from the dvd player and it works at ok angles and distance for me. The remote seems reasonably responsive, they've tried to be clever with the styling and the up/down/left/right buttons are diagonal kidney shaped buttons.
#28
Hey - fishmaster - did you discover if it played AVI movies ? I want to buy it to do the same. As the Wii doesn't (unless you convert your file - and I'm too lazy to do ;-) )
#29
Thanks fishmaster - just saw your reply - went away from the screen too long while posting my Q :-(

I keep coming back to look at this and am soooo tempted but then I remember about the no HDMI, I keep trying to talk myself into it but I just can't do it lol.
#31
Have to say I'm very impressed with the one I have just bought.

3 year warranty as well.

looks good to me

agree...always spoil it by omitting something simple like hdmi, upscaling...:x

Did you notice this player is £17.99? Even if it came with HDMI and upscaling you'd be annoyed that it didn't come with the moon on a stick. Please post where you can get a divx/xvid dvd player with usb playback, hdmi and upscaling with the moon on a stick for £17.99 and I'll take this one back and go buy that one.

I got a Targa one too, had it 3-4 years now and it is great!
