ha ha!
It lets you "sling" / send your input source, Freeview box, DVD, Sky +, Virgin Media, CCTV over the internet to a PC/Mac wherever in the world you can get a half decent internet connection. This is especially handy if you travel a lot, so that you are not stuck with dodgy foreign TV. It gives you an identical on screen remote, so you can control it just like you were at home!
Also works on mobiles/iPhones tho they charge for the mobile software. PC/Mac software is free.
Yep I use it occasionly with my Aspire Revo to send a Sky digital signal into the study from living room. Works extremely well over Wifi, picture quality is great and I've even tried on the 40" LCD and upscaled and works very well, although delay for changing channels etc takes a while to get use to. Very handy if you're staying in Hotels due to work etc, if there's free Wifi you're laughing. As another poster stated, you need a good upload bandwidth if you use via Internet, to be sure of a good picture quality, otherwise 3g is bearable for a quick fix via Iphone/Android app.
Overall, handy piece of kit if you can't be without your TV whilst on the move.
No, TVCatchup does not work, even with a proxy, neither does Skyplayer. BBC iPlayer works with a proxy but is only as good as the network connection at the proxy server so is often jumpy even with a paid for proxy service. I looked and looked but couldnt find any decent free ones at all.

Are you sure? I know all the other BBC UK content does not get streamed through a proxy, its only the initial check that is done via a proxy. I was tunneling through a proxy from work to home (as work traffic goes onto the web via Germany), once the stream had started I was able to disable my proxy and the stream carried on i.e. the speed of the proxy is irrelevant. I suspect the same will be true for iplayer

Just be aware that slings support for mobile apps is poor in that they only have a very small number of products they support via mobile apps and the list contantly changes resulting in you often not able to use a 1yr old piece of kit with the latest software eg the iPad app just released is very limiting

I'd love to have that problem, alas my fundages won't allow for any more excessively priced Apple products! Mmmmm ipad!! he he.
Pro has 4 inputs, Solo, well, it's solo, only 1 lonely input, but it all depends if you need that many inputs. I'd go for the Pro at this price, the cheapest I've ever seen it, brand new and from a reliable retailer! In the future you can add extra sources and personally I like the Pro's red box!
I've wanted a Slingbox for years, so I will be a mega happy bunny when he turns up, just hoping he lives up to my expectations!
Most Sat/modems are normally on all the time i.e. Turn off a sky box all your doing is turning off the picture, its still on due to the recording capabilities. The cost of leaving them on will be a minute fraction of the cost of buying all the equiptment so I don't think its much of an issue.
Only the sat box and modem need to be on, but most people leave them on anyway. If your really troubled by that you could get a web controlled power switch to remotely turn on/off the sat box and slingbox.

Yeap, that's cool but what are the mobile apps like?
