Wasnt a health scare, they were withdrawn as some of the powder was a in lumps in the tin. The batch numbers this relates to are:
SMA Progress Follow On Milk Powder 900 gram cans –
Batch number Q8E103R26 – Best before date 09 10 2009
Batch number Q8E113R26 – Best before date 10 10 2009

Yes, there was a recent recall because the powder was over heated at the factory producing lumps and kids became violently sick. This is probably why they have been reduced.

Can't see that they can do this, as they recalled all the tins off shelves, not sure if legally they would be able to sell them.

Sorry, what I meant was due to the health scare, mums are probably changing to other brands thus affecting sales of SMA. Therefore, they have reduced the price to increase sales.
I am not suggesting they are selling affected cartons of SMA powdered milk.

I did consider stocking up on SMA but due to the recent health scare, I decided better to be safe than sorry, even if the risks are very small. I will probably stick with Cow and Gate or change to Amptimil.
