Before Clark Kent (Tom Welling) became a full-fledged superhero, he was an awkward teenager. But unlike most teenagers, Clark has bigger issues to contend with, like his mysterious powers, his tumultuous relationship with kryptonite, and the strange happenings that have tormented Smallville ever since a meteor shower rained down on the Kansas town years before. As Clark struggles through his high school days, lusting after the beautiful Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and forming a strong friendship with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), he must gradually come to terms with the knowledge that he might be a truly super human. This collection presents the first eight series of the show, which see Clark harnessing his powers, assembling the Justice League, tangling with an evil look-alike, and helping a newly discovered cousin, Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), deal with life on Earth.

Hopefully means series 8 will drop soon

Journeyman - killed after 1 series
Dollhouse / Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Killed after two
Defying Gravity - Killed before the end of the first series!

All shows I loved but the American networks killed them ... yet dull shows like Smallville / Stargate / CSI go on ad-infinitum. Why Jor-El, Why?!

While I agree with more than most of this, Smallville is fun, it has a story arc(ish) and made the most boring DC superhero a bit more interesting. But Dollhouse and Sarah Connor being cancelled was a crime. Deadwood, Carnivale, Firefly!... Depressing.

I agree that better shows than Smallville have been cancelled,

I too believe that the expectations of the US networks are to blame. if you consider the channels on which the shows you mention aired in the US the continuation/cancellation conundrum seems to make more sense. Stargate airs on syfy (formally sci-fi) and smallville airs on theCW, if memory serves. Whereas firelfy and dollhouse were both on fox, where expectations in regards to viewing figures are clearly higher (too high in my opinion).

The trouble is most TV bosses are only concerned about the main nights viewing figures, i.e. who was watching the programme go out live INCLUDING all the ad breaks. They pay no attention to those who recorded the shows, used TIVO / Hulu or online.

Maybe this is a sore point but I keep reading about the numbers watching Heroes is falling ... yet the day after every episode is aired in the US I can download the show in around 10 minutes because there are so many people sharing the torrent. This means that there are a lot more people watching than they realise - OK, we're not watching the adverts but in this day and age, who does?! If I ever want to watch a programme on a non BBC channel during it's first airing, I always record it and then start watching the recording 20 minutes after the start simply so I can skip the ads.

I think Amazon have discounted a number of boxsets.

This and the frasier one are £69.99 now!!!! Both bargains.

This one is under £10 per season. The frasier one less than £6-7 for each series.

Downside to Smallville season 1-8 is they are still making season 9 and maybe 10!!

Why? Because they are more popular than the other shows. It's as simple as that I assume. More viewers (note: a viewer isn't someone that downloads it from the Internet or watches it on TV in a foreign - to the US - country) = more seasons.

Rep me? :w00t:

one big reason - Dvd sales if they cant get a decent price and sell enough then bye bye.

I don't get these box sets, it's a good deal but if you care about presentation... this show is in its ninth season and a tenth is pretty much confirmed, a box that collects 1-8 then having 9-10 separately is senseless. Especially since there will no doubt in the future of this site be a 1-10 (or further) complete box set for a good price

Price is now over £90 so I hit expired.
