i have this dvd player and its brilliant, it plays copys which my previous (expensive) player did not!

Good price but... for around the same prices are Divx players, that can play avi's, jpg's, mp3's, cd's..... for a few extra quid you can get an HDMI out upscaling version - got mine from ebuyer.com for arounf £30 but looks like it's no longer stocked.

Hot. Any idea if it will go multi-region?
#4
does it have a usb port?

Just cause i want to get one for the spare room and want to be able to watch films off usb stick?

If not does anyone know of a small cheap one?

there are lots of these about, so google for a good deal and you should get it for around £30 inc delivery.

Tesco sell a cheap-ish (£17.something) compact DVD player that plays DivX / Xvid.

No USB or upscaling, mind.

And if can be hacked to be multi-region (although that info hasn't always been around, videohelp.com lists the details).

Yep, my point exactly - why get a normal DVD player when you can get a DIVX one that can do so much more? I got my first DIVX player from Lidl for £20 and that was about 2 years ago now and that had an update to allow it to be multi-region as well as some performance updates.

If you've got a nice big flat screen telly, i recommend going for the upscaling version.

Thanks Welshman, i think i might get that one you have, if you think its good and it has the USB which is basically all i wanted and its cheap enough!

Cheers

Why pay an extra £2 for a divx player when you don't watch, or intend to watch, divx?

Asda has another one for 30 quid that upscales, has HDMI and does avi's/jpgs etc
I got it a while back and it works great though sometimes the sound drops out and i've got to play about with setup. But that could be my toddler playing with the remote as both times it happened he'd got his hands on it earlier in the day...

Well said.

This is yet another of those threads where people miss the point of the bargain why buy X for £15 when you can get Y for £30..... well the point is that X is £15....

Cold from me I'm afraid. You can get branded players for £19.99 at Richer sounds http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=PHIL-DVP3120

There's Mitsubishi's and daewoo's etc in their clearance section if that flicks your switch.

All bound to be better quality than a smartprice one.

Well i'm more than happy with it, definitely has usb. - when googling for it, i've noticed there are some exactly the same but minus the HDMI + upscaling, so make sure you get the "Premium" version. Have a google for some reviews - you never know there may be a better one in the same price range about since i've had mine.

On the whole why bother with Divx / extra £2 thing.... I never said it wasn't a good deal if you look at my first note.

I was merely trying to point out a bit of future proofing - If you NEVER want to play mp3's, jpegs or divx etc then go ahead save yourself £2, that's nearly enough for a pint. If you NEVER intend to plug it into a HD compatible telly then great save yourself £15. Just seems like a bit of a false economy to me.
