You can hardly compare quality Smeg manufacturing with cheapo Beko. The Smeg will probably last years longer than the Beko.

I thought I'd read previously that Smeg stuff is all style and no substance in terms of actual build quality. May have been mistaken though. Anyone have experience?

The Which review summary is:
Pros: Good washing, dries well, useful time delay
Cons: Noisy, eco program takes a long time, slightly above average power and water consumption

They give the Smeg brand 2* (/5) for reliability.

This Smeg full-size freestanding dishwasher is great at cleaning and drying, but leaves some watermarks and is noisy.

The machine takes 12 place settings, up to 127 pieces of crockery and cutlery.

We tested its normal 65°C wash, which takes two hours and five minutes - about average for a dishwasher of this size.

This uses 1.5kWh of electricity, slightly more than comparable machines, and 18.3 litres of water, almost two litres more than the average dishwasher of this size we’ve tested.

The eco program uses 0.33kWh less electricity and 5.1 litres less water than the normal program. However it isn’t quick, taking three hours and five minutes, an hour longer than the main wash and around 30 minutes longer than the average on similar models we’ve tested.

You’ll find an adequate range of programs in addition to normal and eco washes. There’s a soak and ultra-clean 70°C option, both useful for pots and pans, and also a light option.

Its useful features include a delay timer which can be set to delay the start of a cycle a program for three, six or nine hours.

There are also indicators lights to remind you to top up the salt and rinse aid when they’re running low.

You can adjust the height of the upper rack to get long-stem glasses or bulkier items on top, but you’ll have to remove the whole basket which can be difficult with items already loaded.

It’s not great at keeping itself clean and the inside may need a wipe out every now and then.

Pros: Good washing, dries well, useful time delay

Cons: Noisy, eco program takes a long time.

This is the front page of the Which review.
Not a glowing report but okay.

SMEG has become one of those fashion brands where people will pay for the name over the substance. Much of their stuff comes out of the same Italian factories as budget stuff. Beko, on the other hand, is a budget brand, made in Turkey, which is building a reputation for reliability (see Which?).

I'm going to need a new dishwasher soon (18 year old one not sounding very healthy). Unfortunately it will need to be 'semi-integrated' to fit into the kitchen. For leaving the casing off and a slightly different door design I'll have to pay loads more than a free standing one - what a rip off!

SMEG are owned by Apple then?

My posting was made with some knowledge of the industry, as I have worked for component suppliers for all the main brands, have visited their factories and witnessed the decline in quality over the past 29 years.
Beko is a low-cost, low quality manufacturer who we do not supply, because they prefer to purchase low-cost components to keep the machine price low.
My experience of this brand is that they will work very well for around 2 years and then the components start to fail.

With reference to SMEG; most manufacturers build lower cost budget machines in the same factory (even on the same production lines) as the more expensive machines. The difference is in the components used and the overall build quality.

With regards to energy consumption, the SMEG has a triple-A rating, the performance should be related to the compliance with the test procedure to obtain the triple-A rating. That is why the ratings were introduced, to compare machines against each other!

Seems reasonable at the price point but don't mistake it with quality German engineering or construction. Someone mentione d 5 years manufacturers warranty - if that is so then possibly worth it providing aftercare is up to the job

As Besford said Smeg have made their market by supplying stylish appliance not necessarily quality ones.
Personally would spend more and get a Siemens witha 5 year warranty (not sure if still being offered) but would be at least £150 more

£299 with 5 year warranty at John lewis

We've just donated our 4 year old SMEG to the scrapman, we've spent hundreds on it and finally decided to ditch it and replaced it with a BEKO-model DWD4310S, it gets 72% on which and brand reliability is rated as good. It washes better than the SMEG did, but doesn't dry quite as well, which i can live with. The SMEG did look good though!

Miele or Smeg?

If you mean which one would you buy if budget wasn't an issue then Miele everytime.
For most the budget is an issue and Miele will be a lot more expensive than equivalent Smeg

Smeg with the manufacturers 5 year warranty may be worth a punt at £299 though

Sorry I don't know the expiry date of the code, but it's still working at the moment.

Not sure whether to go for the appliance world one with the 5 year warranty or spend more and get a more better one. Which reviews arent the greatest as I've just signed up and the customer reviews have slated some of their best buys. Any advice guys? We could potentially push our budget to 500

Trying to use it...but not having it...so must be expired. Bang goes the wife's Xmas Pressie.

The code expired quite a while back, next best thing is 7% discount CLEAN7. I think I'm going to order mine today. I've looked around and while we can't afford an entry level Miele this doesn't look too bad in it's review.
