Just set two of these up this week Got them from the poundshop. I'm beginning to think they may be better buried in the ground as I've not had as many visitors as I expected. Then again maybe they don't like John Smiths Bitter.

Good deal, I paid a lot more for some of these at the start of the summer. I didn't know about the salt water and lettuce and these were costing me a fortune on beer .

It has to be beer, not bitter or lager, someting to do with the way beer is made and they do work I caught hundreds of them with 4 of these traps.

I read that and wondered what you were on about. Fortunately I read it again and I understand.
I'm a Pear Cider or Lager man and was classing Bitter as beer, let me know a cheep beer.

Why would you not just bury a plant pot? It has drainage holes and slippery sides/
#7
Those slugs in the Picture must be monster massive man . innit . either that or the containers are tiny but then the grass looks long , confused .
#8
Just use two yoghurt pots one inside the other with holes in one

I have been on the looking for some cheap beer and haven't found any, they are all roughly about the same price and its dearer than lager, bitter etc in the shops I have been, gonna be trying the salt water and lettuce mix that the OP mentioned.

Only if you dont care about wildlife , slug pellets can kill birds , frogs and badgers ,hedgehogs , even a fox , i personally wouldnt want chemicals all over my garden.

Here's a tip. Instead of using beer just add a small amount of yeast to some water and pour that into the trap. Works great in our garden (although we just use any empty tub) and is cheaper still than cheap (nasty) beer.

HTH.

Bitter is beer.
I can however understand slugs not getting attracted by the foul taste of lager.

The simple solution is to get the Ferrous Sulphate slug pellets, which are relatively harmless.

This is true, its the yeast in beer that also attacts them, I use out of date yeast from bread making.
but you need to empty the traps very often else they stink like nothing else on earth

Yes they can also kill cats, my poor cat- merlin was not even 2yrs when he was poisoned and died on the 06/04/09 on my daughters 14th birthday!! I had to watch him being put down as there was nothing the vet could do- still totally devastated. I have 3daughters and he was idolised by us all. He knocked on the door when he wanted to be in, sat and gave you his paw for a treat and even had a bedtime. Please think of the wildlife. (Anti-freeze is also deadly for cats.)

They shouldn't be driving in the first place.
