What it doesn't say is that you shouldn't be using these over 30 mph else they'll snap! Although I must say a very fitting post considering the weather!

A day off work making snowmen with the kids is a lot more fun:thumbsup:
#3
Hah. These might have been useful to the 7 odd cars that crashed down the other side of the hill my house is on. :p

Sadly if it snows bad where I am I can't safely get out with the car but then I can't really justify chains just yet.

It would be a shame if this deal got hot considering these are for use in the cold!

" SNOW CHAINS" Common get a Grip ffs. :-D
#6
wouldnt use in this country they are just trying to make money,

I think you're only sposed to use them for emergency grip anyway and then remove them anyway but either way it's overkill as you will probably rarely use them. If ya live in the mountains then fine but bit hardcore for the UK.

My manager needs some of these to get home tonight. The is a good deal because no where else sells them.

However Halfords was too far for him to drive to get them.

As he said, 'this price is cheaper than a hotel' which is where he's had to stay tonight. It's ok if you live in the city where the snow is an 'inconvenience', but in hilly countryside it's a a lot more difficult to drive.

On the news they were showing Halfords stores shelves being emptied of items like these snow-chains, anti-freeze/windscreen wash etc, and no doubt for many who have bought them these items will sit in the boot and never/rarely get used lol.
#12
They are much cheaper here

There is a bit of difference between the Alpine Mountains and the city streets of England.

Yeah but the van wouldn't be able to get there because of the snow.
#18
I think Halfords have bumped up the price - way overpriced.

No. it's not as he would need 4 new tyres & alloys after they get chewed up with the chains .....:-D
#21
Who needs these when you can get a snowmobile for £10,000 :-D
#22
Just stay at home and bunk off work then it costs you exactly NOTHING!!
#23
Snow Socks might be better.
What are they? see here

Well I know these look good but are not really. Get a cheap set of steel wheels and some snow winter tyres (thicker grip and softer compound) and put them on during winter - these will cost more but be much more reliable if you live in a difficult area or even if you don't. (Not studded tyres which are banned from UK roads).
(My bro in law got some of these chains and they snapped straight away - although I guess he was doing more than 30!)

Few flakes of snow and the country starts to panic.Come on people, the world is laughing at us over this.
#26
It makes sense if everybody has one otherwise no matter what you have it only takes one without chain to cause an accident!
#27
Handy for BMWs.
Everyone else can just drive properly (or get a Land Rover!).
No doubt the local authorities will get blamed again but the biggest problem I can see this morning is that many people just don't know how to drive. Hell, some of them can't even turn their lights on (or their fog lights off)!

Beware - chains are not compatible with some cars - you can do real damage.

The tyres would get ruined if the idiot at the wheel drives the car on clear tarmac.
Snow chains are to be used on snow. And they require working grey matter between the ears.

I drove a lot on snow chains (not in Alaska, but in France and Italy) and you drive differently, slowly, and with consideration, and when you reach a clear road, you stop the car, kneel by the weels, and remove the chains.

An interesting items are snow-spiders, which grip the outside of the wheel. They are easier to fit and remove, but some require additional preparatory work beforehand.

Snowsocks can help you get out of trouble in an emergency, but considering the amount of potholes on British secondary roads, you'd probably ruin them within 50 miles.

I completely agree, every year it's just laughable as the country grounds to a complete halt, nobody works, nobody travels, nobody goes to school

In China they are battling -30 something temperatures and snow drifts higher than people, in the USA it's pretty much the same thing there. We only have a tiny bit in comparison.

check out nokiantyres.com if you're interested in ' state of the art ' winter tyres. nokian tyres are as high tec as their sister company's phones.

Snow chains don't really help if you can't see where you're going - like half the drivers round here who can't be bothered to clear their windows - madness!
