I'd strongly advise anyone who is thinking about one of these to read this first, shocking reading. http://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/mediafile/100145109/web_usb-article-from-so32.pdf

Just wait for the usual suspects to come and tell you they will burn your house down!

If you install one of these in your house not only will your house burn down but it will cause time to go backwards throwing you into another time /space continuum.

You will then live the rest of your life in a cage being taunted by semi-intellegent frogs (and their spawn).

You may also get acne.

Oh my god! I need these in my house immediately.

get them from screwfix, they come in better designs.

This one from Amazon has the same internals, is a bit cheaper and Primeable, but more importantly matches normal style white sockets...

True but they are £17.99 on screwfix in nice designs and £15.99 for the white.
As this is a deals site, this is a HOT deal.
Im getting these for bedroom as they will be behind the bed/furniture so i can't care less what they look like lol.

I love these, bought one the other week- want more and now in process of getting them for my Daughters room.

Also... if you where lucky enough to get the amazon gift card, the Amazon ones work out at £7.29 :D

Wish i had got 2 gift cards now...
#7
Bought one before from Amazon and even though it is great one of the usb points didn't work.
Pain to return so ended up, via Amazon, chat getting a few quid off instead.

Not sure on exact measurements, but due to the bulk of the USB ports, these are deeper than 'standard' sockets, so unless you have deeper recesses (the metal bracket in the wall for want of a better description) these don't sit flush on the wall.

have ordered two for bedside tables....didn't realize they were on Amazon and Prime will be fitting these tomorrow now

If you can't be bothered to fit these, want to save a few quid, or you want an extra socket as well, B&M have an "Eveready" 2x 240v 2 x USB 5v adaptor socket for £7.99 at the moment (N.B. noticed in small print on packaging B&M have licenced "Eveready name which is a bit cheeky IMO!!!).

voted hot, didn't even know you could get these, brilliant.

according to the write up on amazon, the transformers for the USB shut down when not in use...so they should use nothng

Product Description
Product Description
Upgrade any UK main socket with 2 UK mains plugs and 2 USB charging ports

2 Amp intelligent split - 2 Amp is split between the 2 USB ports however each port only pulls the required power, allowing an optimum charging rate rather than a reduced slower rate

Fits any standard double backbox

Simple retro fit socket

The USB charging sockets are limited at 2 Amp, if the current exceeds this it will automatically trip off to protect your devices

Surge & spike protected - protects your valuable equipment from damaging power surges & spikes

If no device is connected, the transformer shuts down and power is not supplied to the USB ports

Once a device is plugged in this activates the amplifier and power is supplied to the required USB ports

Conforms to European Stand-by Mode
Box Contains
Nillkin Sony Xperia C3(S55T)Super Frosted Shield Case

If you aren't able to change this (after turning off the sockets at the fuse box) then Id advise before you try doing this that you learn some basic home DIY....to be honest changing a light switch or plug socket is very basic DIY...

If you want to do something similar bit don't want to be bothered with changing wall sockets then pick up a 5 port Anker USB charger. . One mains plug 5 USB sockets 2 of which are 2 amp cost me £15.

Even better after 13 months one port went a bit iffy, emailed Anker next day new updated version arrived completely free and said keep the old one, brilliant customer service

These are not for me. Take a read here before deciding to buy these.

And i realise that people will say 'i've had them xx amount of months without issue', but being an electrician, i personally think there are issues with these.
