Cold. Not because SoftMaker Office is bad - simply because OpenOffice is free and is "good enough". My kids use OpenOffice successfully, and easily, to do their homeworks. I guess the *only* benefit for SoftMaker is if you absolutely must be interchanging *complex* documents back and forth between a non-Microsoft package and Microsoft Office.

If we're honest, most of us just aren't able to use that complexity of MS Office.

Yeah, whats wrong with OpenOffice?

Nothing is wrong with OpenOffice. This wasn't an OpenOffice bashing exercise - it was just a good deal on a commercial offering. I'll make it clear that I think OpenOffice is great, however it can be a little on the slow side, particularly on older machines - you can't deny that. The code came in my e-mail inbox and I was passing it on to the masses and I quoted some text from their website.

If you want this software, with commercial support, then this offer is a great deal compared to the normal full price. This shouldn't be a SoftMaker vs OpenOffice vote and I apologise for including the last bit of text - I'll remove it.

Inevitably it will be though. Why pay £17 odd for a relatively little-known office suite, when OpenOffice and it's MASSIVE community of support is out there for free? Open Office or MS Office all the way for me.

Also sold under the Ashampoo Office 2008 moniker.
