On Orange or T-Mobile.

This phone is a solar powered cellular phone which can be charged in bright sunlight without even connecting to main power supply. The panel that converts the solar energy into the battery is located at the back of the phone. An hour's solar charge allows for 5 to 10 minutes of talk time.

Don't forget the rather epic £7.50 Quidco! Use a fresh basket for each one you order as it's free delivery and Quidco tracks on each sale.

And yes, I know it's not going to save you a huge amount on your electricity bills (especially considering the weather), but it's a nice gimmick at the least. You could take it as a spare phone when you go on holiday (to somewhere sunny, of course!).

With the UK weather being as it is, and also that the phone will be kept either indoors or in a pocket most of the time, the solar option is a bit useless.

Still, a good price for a phone to take to a festival where there may be sunshine, or on hols.

a solar powered item that people carry in their pockets/handbags/glove compartments?
what a ridiculous idea.
#4
So when your £400 phone goes flat in a emergency, And this £4.95 phone pulls out of pocket charges from sun and saves his life, I will laugh :D

Could leave it on the dashboard, windowsill or patio table. Or carry it on your belt with a transparent belt-holder.

Don't be so negative! :p

It can't be such an emergency

Saves whose live? Who is dying here?

Are the solar panels integrated? Can't work that bit out. It says "With solar panels attached", so do solar panels come with it or do you buy them separately? Can buy solar panels for any phone...

Haha, I don't know if it'd save someone's life. They'd have to be in the mother of all predicaments, like chained to a fence in hot weather.

I was thinking more like your car battery dies and your phone needs charging. Chuck this on the dash (provided the weather is decent) and it'll give you 5-10 minutes of talk time to explain to someone where you are.
#11
good for people in cars that might need an emergency phone and a few mins talk time

You never know what might happen :D

Too many ego's on here, spoiling it for everyone else, and putting the genuine people off posting deals.
#17
Ive just been away for a week and forgot my charger. A spare phone in the car would have been great. Remember - phone is £4,99 with £7.50 possible cashback. Its a no-brainer for those with some sense,
#18
Remember, the sun doesn't have to be shining for you to charge an item using solar power (despite the name). You can charge just about anything in daylight (whether it's raining or not), but it will be more difficult in the snow...

Social networking site!
Why wasn't I included.

Stop having fun.Deals are serious business.

Nice, I can see from that pic that it does have built in solar panels! Anyone know if this can be bought unlocked? Have a friend abroad without electricity at home so this would be handy.
#23
This has clearly grabbed everyone's attention in a way it would not normally.

Why?

As not one post so far has mentioned locked/unlocking!!!

There - spoiled it!

:-)
#24
...or if this particular phone can be unlocked easily?
#25
He had to post it while I was typing - didn't he!!!! :-))))
#26
remember you dont need sun to charge it, so weather isnt a problem just leave it in light. Bought one for car shows and festivals where a little boost of battery a day could mean never needing to charge it at the mains for a long long time.

I'm not sure if that picture is genuine. The keypad certainly isn't right.

Ordered one.
At the least after quido it works out at £7.50 total cost.
Will move to dolphin plan, and should get the 150mb Internet for the month, plus 300 texts! Then after the first month use the credit to by unlimited texts for a month and a 100 minutes from orange.

So that will keep me going for 2 months, 300 texts for first, unlimited for second, and 100 minutes for second month!

And all for £7.50, and you still end up with a nice emergency phone!

This is a super hot deal. Who cares if it can or cannot be unlocked! I am sure it can if you take it to your local phone store.

has anyone received one of these?
phones4u, t-mobile, argos plus loads of other retailers sell this phone and none mention it having a solar panel. some even have a picture of the back of the phone, showing a normal non solar cover.

samsung have the E1107 which have a solar back. which is an older model based on the E1100. could e2save have made a mistake?

plus - the pics in posts #21 #27 & #29 are the E1107

This video shows some guy reviewing it, focusing on the back panel:

Having said that, I can't see it mentioned here:

So, to summarise: I have no idea. :)

Looks like a mistake, the Samsung E1107 is solar powered.
#35
to those who have ordered it - what did it say in the confirmation email: E1107 or E1170

Unfortunately if it's anything other than direct sunlight, it will take so long to charge that you might as well be in the dark.

Good idea the solar power for the car phone. hot.
