It will need to be left in direct sunlight and if it's a cloudy day it won't do much. The winter we've had it would have been rendered pretty much useless. I still think it's good considering the price, 2*AA 2100 mah batteries and free dev. though.

Reviews make clear its VERY slow, using solar or USB.

Plus there is no microUSB plug, which precludes it recharging most new phones.

Wow great stuff thanks!

What is the difference having 2 x AA 2100mAh over a Li-ion 3.7V/1000mA rechargeable battery for this kind of product??

One reviewer mentions charging a BlackBerry using it, so it must do.
Plus there's one in the photo on 7dayshop...

i bought one of these. very poor.

doesnt provide enough current to charge up a modern smartphone like a HTC desire. ended up having to charge via usb in the end too as the solar charging aspect isnt much use unless you live on the equator. (left it to charge in direct sunlight in the rare few sunny days of the year last year, didnt make much of a dent on the battery in terms of charge)

sent it back for a refund. granted it was about 15quid at the time. trust me, buy a power monkey instead. its well worth the extra few quid and you can buy the solar bit for it if you really need that.

I bought one of these to provide a top up for my HTC Desire if it was getting a bit low throughout the day.
Absolute cheap rubbish that didn't do the job.

Bought a Pebble which does the job extremely well. Can get nearly 3 full charges out of it (rated 5000mA). Accepted it cost more, but it works - therefore the value is far higher.

Thinking about this product a little. It can never really work, unless what it's charging is 2.5V or less.
It has 2 qty Ni-Mh Batteries, which onload give out 1.25V each, 2.5V total.
Batteries used in mobile phones are commonly rated at 3.7V

Therefore, this product is about as much use as a condom machine in a convent bog

The reviews say it takes a few days to charge the batteries and several hours after that to charge the phone...

Thinking about this product a bit more, it probably can work for devices over 2.5V as it almost certainly has a boost converter in it. It won't charge your HTC desire because the HTC desire will require something like 0.5A@ 5V, and the boost converter will need to be well made (expensive) to pull 2.5W from 2AA cells.

Does not come with a micro usb tip just a mini usb tip, so had to resort to using the original usb lead provided by HTC, for now to charge my htc desire see how well that goes. I'm going to contact 7dayshop and see what they say.

Assuming that the batteries that i received were fully charged as the website claims they are, the gave me a total of 4% charge on my HTC Desire, lol.

This is the first ever item i'll be returning on the day i received it.
