Was looking for a new tip for my smaller version of this iron, and came across this deal on Maplin's website.

The smaller version is a superb iron, so I am all excited about getting its bigger brother!

Cannot go wrong at this price - equivalent to a 70w mains iron.

These gas ones good? I've only ever used electric ones ... guess it's good for out and about for sure ... but is it as efficient?
I'm tempted to get one at this price even tho I know it's gonna sit around gathering dust ... but I know I will sleep in peace knowing I have one if ever needed ... hehe

lol I'm the same with tools, you never know when you'll need one.
These are great, I've used one for car electrics, nothing else will do ;)

Got one of these already, and cost more than twice this price!
And use it every day - the only (wireless) iron that I've found to be any good
Very good item

How can it not be hot lol

Odd...

I copied & pasted the link from the browser as I was heading out the door (to Maplin!), It looked fine, but I pasted yours in anyhow.. It still does not work even after correction?!

Wonder if the deal will get as hot as the Iron does (450 degrees) :-D

And to answer peoples questions, yes, gas soldering irons are amazing. The only time that I would say that they are not suitable is if the 'splash' heat is an issue, as there is a hot flame behind the tip.

I've got one of these, blown the pointed tip( probably by having it on too high a heat). Replacement tip pack cost more than the offer price for iron.

Aren't these the same: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=35027&DOY=16m4

Did exactly the same - dead tip. But that was after much use & abuse (it glows red hot!).

Trying to source cheaper tips, will update if I find some.

I have the iron kit which includes other shaped tips(these I have never used as yet), so ideally I only need pointed tip. So yes please let us know if you find cheaper.
