  This is simply a USB extension cable that isn't fully wired, it would work with an iPod!?
  
  But...
  
  Can't you just eject the iPod from windows (assuming there is a similar term for mac) and just leave the cable plugged in anyway... ?

  Oh, my other solution (windows based) is to install something like Winamp with the additional iPod plugin and listen to the music on the PC, but streaming from the iPod.
