beef deal is competitive -

I had a look at their turkey crowns yesterday - even at 1/2 price I'd not vote them hot

this is supermarket hype - they were all about this price 4 months back - they up the prices so that they can advertise them at 1/2 price for people to think what a good deal rather than think the prices have increased by 100% and now they are back to where they should be. ADSA are doing the same..:x

Our local Somefield has loads of good deals on currently. In addition to the posting they also have:

Half priced fresh tiger prawns
Half priced fresh rump steaks
Smoked Salmon reduced from £12 to £4
Whole Ducks for £6
Extra Large Chickens for £5

And some good booze offers too, including:

South African red/white wine boxes for £9.99 (I can personally vouch for the red as being very good)
The Glenlivet Malt Whiskly - £24.99 red to £16.99
12 x bottles of Becks for £7.99
Bombay Sapphire Gin (75CL) for £9.99

Yeah, but why is this a hot deal.... the price is £8.50 a kilo. "Half price" means nothing as has been previously posted, half of an inflated price is not necessarily any sort of bargain :-(

I currently have no idea if £8.50 /kg is a good or a poor price!

£8-9 a kilo is the normal going rate for topside , however there are promos at most supermarkets...

£4.00 a kilo at Asda
£4.24 a kilo Tesco
£4.49 a Kilo at Sainsburys
1/2 price Co-Op (dont know price)

Err.... yeah, that's topside though... close beside it, but not quite rump, and a good bit inferior.

Rump steak is usually a good bit dearer... about say 25 to 50% more!
(I don't buy it, so don't keep the current figures in my head - I can usually tell you prices for Sirloin!)

Actually, I have cut back buying beef (well meat getnerally) for several months, in any case I am no longer the meat eater I was; but with Christmas coming, I was a bit shocked when I went to buy some at Makro at the weekend! :-(

Exactly. A Nissan Micra is cheaper than a Nissan Qashqai. Both Nissans, but very different:thumbsup:

Did I just compare Rump Steak to a Nissan Qashqai??:w00t::w00t:

I would agree with you, but not everyone now has the benefit of a local butcher any more - even for me, in a major city, I would have to pass about 3 major chain supermarkets to get to a small butchers shop!
Odds on it will be significantly dearer too, so it is one of those considered purchases that people work out for themselves - and is no doubt the reason most people buy meat at the supermarket :-(

Sirloin & rump are rubbish cuts are they?
Ah, I see.
What would you suggest, shin or thin flank? Maybe a bit of Sticking or skirt?

While Somerfield may not be the Nation's premium butchery or hold the Royal Warrant; if you think Sirloin is a rubbish cut, then, as there is undoubtedly not a finer cut of steak available, I am at a loss to wonder what you would consider not to be rubbish!

Not that the original posted deal mentions Sirloin steak anyway!

Not a clue :-(
