Sonos play 1 and 3 £139.00 @ John Lewis instore

ibleigh Avatar

Sonos Play 1 for 139.00 Sonos play 3 for 209.00 John Lewis, box been opened but with 2 year warranty. This was a Nottingham local deal. Not sure if they are around in any other John Lewis's.

Basically a return or a display item, unlikely to be national unless other stores have had one returned/extra on display.

Is this 1 item in 1 store
#2
Store specific

There were approximately 5 or 6 of these in the Nottingham store earlier today. A couple of Play 3's too (£209 IIRC)

Edit: oops, didn't spot original post mentioned the Play 3 as well - was skimming it on the phone - sorry!

So you reckon they open all the boxes of new ones and then spread them nationwide? Highly possible.

Reduced in newcastle & didn't look like boxes open.
But hey they're overpriced anyway..... !!!!!!!

It'd cost me £12 in fuel, £3 in parking and >~3hours of my life to see if Milton Keynes branch is doing the same.

Here's hoping that one day a store specific deal will actually be near me!

How do you know it's not 1.5 hours and £6 petrol to get to the nearest phone box??

Got my first Sonos1 for Christmas, brilliant sound but, you have to use the Sonos app to send audio to the speaker so I cant use external apps like the DJ mixing app on my iPad.
#13
Can you not use line in?

Don't JL Stores price match other JL stores anyway?

Good point well presented. (_;)

The point I was aiming to make though is that it makes the cost (for me at least) more as I don't live next door to the shop so travel costs need to be considered by individuals to establish the total cost. Rhinopauls deal still works best for me by quite some margin.

Unfortunately the SONOS Play 1 doesn't have a line in, the hole you may see in Google images is for speaker stands.

It doesn't cost £3 to park in MK. It's £1.40 right outside the door of JL or 40p if you can walk for 2 mins. Also, if you're driving that long then you almost certainly have a branch a lot closer.

I apologise, It's the pedant in me. :-)

Title needs editing, it implies the Play 3 is £139 too

Bought the Sonos Play 1 from John Lewis last week and it's amazing. I find the Sonos app takes a while to get used to though.

It was a toss up between this and the BOSE Soundlink Mini, both had great sound and have different benefits. I keep changing my mind about which one I prefer, the BOSE has an aux input and my kids keep asking if they can use it with YouTube and Netflix which you can't :/

If you buy it now you get Deezer which is £120 and an amazing service...I just have the play one and would agree without Deezer it would be over priced for a mono speaker but currently its a bargain if you pay for music anyways

Just called the Solihull store and was told the play 1 is £169 in store.
#24
Probably a stupid question but can I play deezer through my phone (using the sonos app)? How long is the deezer deal valid for? Activate before 31st December?
#25
You can play deezer on your phone using the deezer app completely independent of Sonos.

You only need to use the Sonos app if you want the sound to come out of a Sonos speaker
#26
I use an android app called airaudio to send whatevers playing on my phone to my sonos rather than their app. Can also send to DLNA and Airplay speakers simultaneously

I worked at JL for many years on audio and tv and the majority of offers are store specific. Most items are one offs as have been returned by a customer in the previous 12 months within there 28 day period. You do get one or two really good national deals though.
#28
I got a Play 1 for xmas and have set it up to connect to my NAS and set up the 12 months Deezer. Very nice bit of kit, ideal for the kitchen/bathroom, yes you have to use the app but once you've set that up on all your phones/tablets it's just so simple to get playing. For the lowest in the range it has very impressive sound quality and we will be adding to it from now and setting them up over the house. It is expensive compared to other wireless speakers on the market but it's a premium product for a reason and the ability to just keep adding to it is appealing.

Very misleading title.

my kids keep asking if they can use it with YouTube and Netflix which you can't :/

if you buy a Sonos with a Line In (like the Connect or Play 5), you could buy a Chromecast, get an HDMI audio extractor dongle and run the Chromecast audio into the Sonos Line In. Now you can listen to Netflix audio and Youtube music via your Sonos.

seenoevil
yes you have to use the app

if you use Google Play Music instead of Deezer of Spotify, you can use the Play Music app instead :)
#31
none of these on Brent cross but they did have one Play 5 for £299
#32
do you need the base unit, or can you just buy a SONOS 1/2/3/4/5 and have it working straight away?

I have a play 1 and nothing else, it connects to my wifi and works perfectly - no base unit required.

Full price in Cambridge.

I showed the sales assistant this thread and he said these discounted Play 1 & 3s would be customer returns and specific to the store. He said they don't price match on that basis.

wow unlike reading it's 6.00 for 2 hours, unlike you know where to park for free with a 10 to 15 min walk

You no longer need the bridge with the latest software. Got a play1 for christmas great piece of kit and the free 12months deezer can also be used on my mp3 player and phone.

You can stream the audio only to the Sonos from Youtube .... google it

Depending on which speaker you have you can use Line in, think its only the Play:5 that has it. Or you could get yourself a Sonos dock and connect it that way. That will play whatever is playing on your ipad or iphone. May have to get an adapter though as it is the old 30pin connector
