Wow. Why on earth someone would spend that sort of loot on one of these instead of an actual AV amp (plenty of excellent budget models about) and a pair/set of speakers that would make this sound toy town is beyond me.

because this is more than just a soundbar, it can be part of a full house multi room wireless system all controlled from an App

As Paulj48 mentioned this piece of kit is equatable to if 'Carling made Soundbars' its the Marks and Spencer's of soundbars :) I think you get what I'm saying here.

These are quite expensive, the sound is amazing and all the kit gets 5 stars from WhatHIFI. The budget kit you refer to is just that, budget and poor in quality in comparison.

Would be daft to spend that much on a soundbar I don't care what make or model it is...rip off

Vote cold because you cannot afford or justify a £600 soundbar that you do not even understand? Very clever.

At £550 it's a hot deal. If you want this soundbar or know what it is.

I have high end separates and surround sound av kit. This is superb and matches what I have. It's ability to play my iTunes,Weezer, digital radio etc in a multi room set up via the app is awesome. Yes it's expensive but worth it in my view.Hot

Actually, you can easily find AV receivers from last year's models for half i.e. £250 from £500 with DTS/Airplay etc. and similarly speakers for seriously less than RRP which would all equate to much more functionality and a purer sound at quiet or louder volumes.
So no, I don't have a clue, but a factual knowledge. No AV sites/experts would recommend such an expensive soundbar over a similarly priced (bargain hunted on google) separate system. And when I say budget, it's to avoid the usual that isn't cheap comments and/or be snobbish over what people can afford.
Soundbars are a simple one box convenience and Sonos do make some nice products but this is in no way a purer possible sound solution.

Does this thing really not support DTS? What a deal breaker if it's true.
Nearly all the blu ray sound tracks are in DTS format of one sort or another.

Apparently so, as far as I understand it plugs into the TV via optical and the TV will down mix DTS to dolby digital. Feed the playbar DTS directly and there's no sound output. I'd def get one if it supported DTS.

its like saying the only cars you would consider owning are those with three wheels, as four wheels is simply ridiculous.

having only AC3/DD is prob fine on this unit if not extended with the rear surrounds and sub.

Hot deal.

I bought one of these at Christmas, the best sound i've ever heard now i've connected two sonos play 1's to my living room. Way better than any amp we could have placed around the house plus they all link up wirelessly through the wireless network around the house.

Amazing deal.

The subs another £600 notes on top , plus there's no DTS support , over priced for audio posers

I've been looking for one of these, and I've given it heat because if you're in the market for one, it's a good price.

Interesting reading the comments though... For me, the reason I was looking to buy isn't because I'm an "audio poser", it's because I'm not an audio expert. And if what I (as a luddite) would consider to be an "authority" on this sort of equipment (WhatHiFi) is cobblers, then where *is* a good place to get this sort of info?

encaser - If you're saying that I can pick up a better bit of kit for my TV/Media Centre/BluRay *and* have enough change to pick up a Play 3 (or a couple of Play 1s) to fit with my existing Sonos setup, then I'm very interested. Would really appreciate any links to deals or model numbers etc to start looking around...

For damn good reason too!

I read one of their reviews a few years ago of a £160 HDMI cable. The review was simpering all over it, saying how the picture had colour and depth that wasn't offered by the other HDMI cables in the test.
