You obviously do though I can tell you are a man who wouldn't just make wild unfounded presumptions.

As a matter of fact I have actually owned two both fell to bits. My last is still around somewhere with bits hanging off it a carbon fibre sz3xwp that cost over £1500 about 4 years ago. It was great for 9 months until it started to fall apart.

good deal... wont find anything like this online for less then a grand!

Is this laptop any good for gaming ?

It should be OK. Notebookcheck rate the 330m as a middling class 2 card - you won't be able to use high settings on the most demanding games but it should manage them all on low or medium.

Here's a linky for a 2010 laptop reliablility test. It shows Asus and Toshiba a little ahead of Sony, Apple and Dell - Acer and Lenovo trail quite badly but are at least better than HP!

sony vaios scream quality compared to other laptops you can just see that vaios are worth there money there great to use and very powerfull you do get what you pay for this laptop is a very good vaio if i didnt all ready have 1000 pound plus quality vaio id have this straight away

and the styleing on vaios is worth the price tag alone

I bought this exact laptop 2 months ago from the SonyStyle shop for £1149, which included a 2 year warranty. Its a great machine, albeit a bit noisy because of the fan required to cool the i7 proc.

Most likely its on sale beause Sony will soon be releasing the F13 with better graphics...the F12 hasn't even been out for half a year!!

It's badly needed; the 330m graphics on this are a real mis-match given the i7-740QM processor.

I don't know about that - certainly the cheaper Vaios I was looking at earlier this year seemed pug-ugly to me; but then I guess you'd equally dislike the styling of my Dell XPS. (_;)

I duuno abt vaios 4 yrs ago... at that tym I always thought of them to be ridiculously overpriced coz of Brand name...

but.. my friend got one of them little business Vaios, and it was quite well manufactured. I dunno abt reliability tests, but to me Apple - Sony does good hardware...

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.htmlThis is where I checked... Its real...

I stand corrected :|

Where I've seen these processors directly tested using identical hardware the i7-820 outperformed the i7-740 in nearly every test (as you would expect with identical clock speeds and it's bigger cache).

But you are right - CPU mark which is based on 'real' performance results shows the opposite. Very puzzling as although you'd expect the 'new' kit fitted alongside 740s to be faster than with older 720s the 820 was a high-end chip and you'd have thought was matched with other high-end components...

You must have treated it like **** then!

Sony good.. customers service.. poor. I had the F11... stonkingly quick but needed the mobility as well as the raw power... got a Z instead.... hasn't put a foot wrong... mind you for £2300 it better not!!
#18
The F13 can be pre-ordered now...out in about a week. Watch these go for far less. The F13s contain the new USB 3.0 ports for which accessories are staring to appear such as portable hard disks.

That's what puts me off Sony.

After having owned 3 Sony Vaios in the last 3 years, I have been put off Sony due to their build quality. All 3 laptops had paint coming off them after 3 or so months. Around the edges and on the mouse buttons the paint starts to come off really quickly if you spend a lot of time of the computer like me. And all these 3 laptops were expensive models priced at £1500, £1000 and £800. I have gone with Dell Studio XPS 16 now which has been running like a dream and still looks like new after 6 months use.

And Dell service as standard is also better. I had a hardware failure with my Sony and they advised me to send it in for repair which will take 2 weeks. When I had a screen fail on my Dell, the technician came out to my office and replaced it within 24 hours.

If you want style, Sony vaio is hard to beat. But they really need to sotr out their paint coating in my opinion.
#21
NOT worth the money, you pay for the brand not the spec. Not better than msi, acer or toshiba. You get a much better laptop for the same money. I think it's a cold deal

The GPU on this will bottleneck things heavily. Its a good price for the model but as many people have said, its a mismatch in term's of mid/high end hardware.

not everyone who buys these top end laptops have 'gaming' in mind. The gpu is fine for everything else except high res gaming.

You are right about gaming but you could say by the time you start hitting a grand, you expect a slightly better gpu, especially considering the CPU.

There was a dell vostro 17" deal recently with GT 330M, i5 and 3-years warranty for about £570. A better balanced package, despite being inferior in some regards.

They are the most returned laptop in currys, they are extremely error prone. (manager friend at currys). Ive also seen a new one at work recently when I said there no good totally **** up twice and have to be returned.

They really just dont seem very good for the price. Dont know why they dont make them better.
