Price adjusted after amazon reduced it.

Firstly thanks to the other threads on the X series deals as I wouldn't have seen this otherwise. 16GB is more than enough for me and I quite fancy the built in speakers, so this seems an unbelievable deal.
Amazon have an offer where you are getting the 16gb for the price of the 8gb (£69.99), plus sony are offering £20 cashback on top.

Link for sony cashback: http://www.sony.co.uk/article/id/1237476979966

It's from the new range. Includes fm radio, iplayer compatible, 42 hours battery life through headphones and 17 hours through in built speakers.

Apparently some other nice features as well - can use it as an alarm clock to wake up to music through the speakers, voice recorder.

In T&C

1. Customers purchasing a selected Sony Walkman® product at participating stores between 19th November and 24th December 2009 inclusive may claim cashback (in the form of a cheque). All purchases and mailing addresses must be within the UK.

Amazon didn't say they are one of those "participating" stores, did they?

Small detail but looks like it comes with the inferior earphones, not the "bud" types.

Thanks to Donut in the thread on the 32gb x series model, it has been confirmed from Sony that Amazon are included in the cashback offer:

No! They got rid of that limitation on their models a couple of years ago. Drag and drop in windows explorer, or sync via windows media player etc.

Hot!!!

Has Amazon confirmed that they are a participating store? The Sony site states to check with your dealer first to avoid disappointment.

Just rang Sony on the Helpline number provided - they did confirm that Amazon is a participating store.

Was going to order but this review put me off (Lack of native AVI support)

bought this Sony to move up from Sony 8 Gig to 16 Gig and the Speakers included option. The memory is plenty for all your Music Files. I'm up to 3000 MP3's and there's still room for more. Excellent display and search helps you find any file in 2 seconds. You'll need to convert Video Files to MP4 which is a pain if you just want to watch AVI's and delete like most other MP3/4 Players let you. But it does save a 90% of Memory if you have the time to convert. The screen is still too small (for me) watching a full Film but it is very bright and clear. The screen appears to be for a Mobile/Cell Phone and is only watchable from the front or right of screen. The further left you go and the display goes into negative. Not up to the Nintendo DS Screen which has a clear view from all angles. The Speakers are OK if you are using the Player in a quiet room. Nowhere near the sound quality of the portable Playstation - but it is still tiny by comparison. I'm Happy with the new Sony. It does all my last Player did but now I can keep all my Music in my Pocket without the need to keep shifting files. The Battery is supposed to be better than the previous model. I'll be happy with a few days Music on the go without my headphones. But I wont get it if there's much background noise. The sound is pushed out from the rear of the screen so you need to reflect the waves for any volume. No port for Memory expansion. Could do better Sony. Not the Quantum leap I was hoping for.

Has Amazon confirmed?

Seems like its any retailer just need to give to Sony to claim the cashback.

Cracking deal. Buy some quality earphones and enjoy!

With the cash back this is a complete bargain. 16gb is too low for a media mp3 player though IMO that space wont go far once you start using video files. When you factor in the £80 dock and £50 cash back on the 32gb plus its a better speced newer model I think its a much better deal personally.

Still great player for the money really is.

That is certainly a great deal, but it still works out at £90 more than this one, and I can't justify the extra spend. I don't see the need for wifi or a touch screen on an mp3 player and not sure how useful the cradle is too. Plus I like the idea of the built in speakers. Don't expect the sound to be great from them, but perfect for in the kitchen or around the house.

i have an x series walkman was very little info on converting avis but after i did a bit of googlin found a nice quick solution wmp11 import file to windose media player 11 and it will convert and import em for you no sync issues and does a 90 min movie in aprox 10 mins job done with no more software needed

must say the xseries oled screen is very viewable in bright light and from all angles
#17
I vote hot no doubt its great little player for the money. The biggest benefit is its not an ipod.
#18
Hmmm... not sure if i'd make use of it... a typical mobile phone nowadays does pretty much everything a portable MP3 player does - would mean another device to carry around, but nontheless its a great price I think.
I guess you cant do more advance things on here like run a different OS, or install/play games.
#19
But who uses a mobile for their MP3's, I certainly don't? Can't beat the sound quality on a seperate/dedicated player.
#20
Can anyone explain how the cashback works please.

Only £130 from comet!!!

Basically when you receive your mp3 player you send off your receipt and detials to the address sony provides you. After 28 days you receive a cheque back and your receipt for the corrosponding amount of cashback, in this case £20.

simples

smashing, i got it, thankyou.

Ordered one for sons Xmas present, he has a sony 2GB mp3 player thats showing signs of wear & tear due to taking it to school (uses it alot) so excellent replacement, thanks.

Exactly even a £40 sansa clip produces better sound that a £300 dedicated walkman phone. My mrs has a high end sony walkman phone yes the camera is handy and its ok for occsional music but limited space, tiny screen poor sound quality no good for video playback etc etc etc...

cracking price

it'd be a great deal if the player didn't have a propietary WM-Port. £20 for a spare cable in amazon!

Just ordered - Happy Christmas to me! :santa:

Are the headphones really that bad, and if so, can someone recommend a pair please.

Yes, but the likelihood of requiring another cable seems pretty remote.

Where's the bluetooth support Sony?!?!?!?!

I'm led to believe that this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-WLANWB1-Bluetooth-Adaptor-NWS700/dp/B000KP0ZWS/

works on models other than the NWS700.
#35
Please can anyone inform me if this model contains roughly the same internals as the Sony NWZA-728 which I brought for £40 the other day or is this a cheaper built model.

I tried comparing on the Sony site but my internet connection is so poor that it I can not get it to load
#36
Oh blast it, there is only so many Sony mp3 player deals one can ignore, Ive finally ordered! :x
#37
Does anyone know if this is compatible with ipod car stereos, for example the
Alpine IDA X100, it has a USB lead to plug into, well that's how I've seen it used with the ipod which is now knackered.

crackalackin! got a double memory deal last christmas, this time even better with cash back! ordered.

Really? I can't say I notice a huge difference between my Nokia 5800 and my Sony Walkman. If I listen closely the Walkman is better, but not enough to make it worthwhile carrying 2 devices around.

Masssive difference i had that phone and a ipod could tell the difference straight away, iphone is probably the best music phone and that will cost you a arm and a leg
