good as you dont need 1080p on a screen this size unless you are going to use it as a pc monitor.....but then id quation whay you are better off with a proper monitor with a higher res panel
#2
Few obvious questions, (to me anyway.)
How did you find out about this deal?
Is it National?
And is the cashback is part of the Sony cashback scheme?

what a dunce...you clearly now nothing and the fact you are using a samsung to watch tv proves my point...you cant tell the difference unless you are using it as a pc monitor....your 26in sammy isnt 1080p anyway as no 26in tv is.....sammy lcd tv's are garbage..they are tv's for chavs....terrible burn your retina overprocessed picture, usual lcd backlight bleed..also likely to use the same panel found in some sony tv's which do a better processing job imo
oh i have a sammy lcd for my pc but its garbage compared to my pioneer plasma

I'm glad somebody agrees with me about samsung tvs, most overrated TVs you can get. Don't get me wrong some of their more expensive models are good but the cheaper ones are nothing short of average

Panasonic/Pioneer all the way for me. Sony arnt bad either
#8
Is it right that all the sub £600 Sony's are 50 Hz only? It seems weird that everyone else does their models in 100Hz for around that price point but with a Sony you're getting up toward £800 for their 100Hz models?

The only reason i ask is that i thought the Xbox 360 games sometimes restrict 50Hz only models, or is that rubbish?

Thanks, so if you had a 50Hz only set, presumably you wouldn't be able to play them?

Probably meant 720p is quite acceptable for most people on a 32" screen.
For 40" and up, 1080p (or 1080i if your telly's slightly older - or is a crap Toshiba like mine) is essential unless you're more governed by price than PQ.

Not entirely true this. Whether or not you'll see any difference is entirely down to how far you are from the TV. Off the top of my head I think you need to be less than 8 foot from a 42" screen to start to see benefit from 1080p v 720p. There's also the consideration of what sources you watch, if the bulk of your TV time is spent watching normal SD TV then a 720p set can actually be better as it's not having to do as much upscaling and, at this end of the market, you'll usually find the upscalling isn't great in the first place.

i beg to differ, the T240HD, 24" the T260HD, 26" and my current that im using to type this at 1920x1080, the 2333HD, All 26" or sub 26" with a 1080p picture; and all are TVs.

Unless JL are going it alone and offering £150 off a 32", the Sony deal is only £50

From http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/rockers

1. Visit one of the participating stores
2. Choose which new BRAVIA you would like to purchase from the list below
3. Hand over your old TV to the member of staff at the participating store where you purchase your new BRAVIA.
4. Complete a trade-in form and receive a discount of up to £150 for the purchase of a new BRAVIA. Discounts depend on the screen size of the BRAVIA you purchase. If you choose a model of 46” or larger, you will receive £150 discount, a model of 40” will receive £100 discount and a model between 26” and 37” will receive £50 discount.
5. This offer runs from 21 August 2009 until 18 October 2009.

lol at the random shouts..

But im happy at least there are some sane people who do actually rate samsung tvs as rubbish. As most chaves around me seem to think samsung stuff is their god given gift!

Oh and me being stupid bought a 40” samsung tv after a stupid friend of mine recommending the model as he owns it, but i should have gone and seen it at his house first. Damn thing is not that good, really wish i paid a tiny bit more and bought a Sony/Panasonic.

the only one i can see from their website, is
http://www.johnlewis.com/230574039/Product.aspx
trade-in price is only 50 pounds,
wonder it is nation-wide?
#28
there is no proof of this? - JL Cheadle price for this set a few days ago was £450 making it £400 with the £50 trade in. - that is except for the one I bought with no-box (previously sold) which was £350 (making it 299 with the £50 trade in)

Well, did say I was stupid on that point.. but it wasn't that expensive that's why I bought it.. well I couldn't see any difference at the shop probably because of some rubbish loop they had on.. and when your mate tells you he bought it few months ago for 120 quid more.. I thought I was getting a bargain.
#30
the price is comfirmed by sonex head office (the company that owns the sony centre franchise) got an email from them today saying not to price match this price as it's too low margain. not sure if its nationwide, may be

edit: btw its instore only

Sony and Samsung share the same plant and use the same screens. Samsungs LCDs are as good as any other at their price point and res that you buy at.

And FWIW I use a recent bought 42" 1080p Panasonic plasma but in reality, between my set and my folks 1080p Samsung 40" LCD there is very little in it, even when properly calibrated.

Of course websites and magazines would want you to believe different, but then they want to sell copy and attractive revenues etc.
#32
I just placed an order for a Samsug 32" yesterday morning.

I would have called and cancelled and gone for this ..

BUT.. I don't drive and the nearest store is miiiiles away! :x

Voting Hot btw.

1. There is nothing wrong with Samsung televisions and to say they are only for CHAV's is, well, plain silly.

2. 1080i & 1080p will always be better than lower resolutions in my opinion. The whole..it depends on the size of the screen and how far away you watch...is a tired debate.....although if you live in a shoe box then a massive 50" screen is probably too big ;-)

Put simply, it all depends on WHAT you are going to be using the TV for e.g. erm...watching TV? playing games? watching HD content...blah blah blah.....etc that should heavily influence the buying decision process.....as well as checking how much you have to spend of course
#34
they will let you trade in any old tv to get that price? Thats pretty good, as its a real shame that so many people are now just taking CRTs to the tip when they could be re used or recycled. IMO they should give them to hospitals, Army, homeless, elderly, youth club etc. Theres some cracking old sony WEGA CRTs just getting binned.

The cheap Samsung TVs in my opinion are rubbish my gran bought a 1080p Sammy last year with the 100Hz processing after always having Panasonic's as soon as i walked and sat down i could hear a very loud buzzing from the back-light needless to say it went back, she now has a Panny plasma and with SD the picture is fantastic as with HD all in all a far better TV but a lot more money you get what you pay for.

As for the dunce comment what you have to say does not make you look a genius, The fact you tar all Samsung TVs with the same brush tells me you don't know what your talking about. The expensive Samsungs have very good picture quality and to bang on about there PC monitors makes you look the dunce because in the PC world Samsung monitors are amongst the best and most expensive monitors you can buy and are regarded very highly for gaming and graphic designers.

You then compare a Pioneer plasma that costs well over £1000 right upto into 1000s which are classed as the best TV money can with Samsungs budget TVs. In most respects i agree with you that they are poorly made and tend to be the TV that people who know very little about TV's go for after some spotty face teenager at Curry's tells them they are the best, and personally i would never buy one but its like everything, you buy what you can afford and unless your like me and want the best sound and vision available most people are happy in the fact they have a massive flat screen TV even if the people on the TV look like Lego.

Do you have to insult other people, because they have a differing viewpoint? This person is entitled to their views as much as you are to your taste, but just slamming insults isn't probably the better way to win people over. You don't know who you're talking to, to the extent that someone with learning difficulties etc would rightly be offended and upset by what you said,. This isn't a place to be obnoxious to others. ;-)

Seems alot of TV for £300 so voted hot.

I have a 720p Samsung and find the picture great on it and compares favourably with freinds 1080p Sony, however i do watch TV using SD Sky. PS3 looks stunning threw my 32" Samsung mind so i think its all to do with how far you sit away, what inputs you will be connecting the TV to and how you set up your TV.
