I've been waiting for this tv to fall in price since I missed the amazon deal last month which was £399. It's now on with amazon for £499 + delivery. Argos is the cheapest I can find it at the moment. Out of stock for hme delivery but can be ordered in store for pick up. I just ordered this afternoon for pick up Saturday. This is 100hz. Don't be miss lead by the Argos desciption which says 50hz!

Once again no feedback from the ice brigade!! Interested if anyone knows of where you can find it cheaper? Thanks

Have this tele in the bedroom. the full HD picture is great! Standard def also looks fantastic over free view. The sound quality is also the best I have heard from built in speakers on a flat panel tele
#3
Hot price by the way. I haven't seen it cheaper....

I've heard so many good things about this tv but it's nice to get so
e extra assurance before I pick up on Saturday. Thanks

You cannot go wrong with a Sony. I tried out a more expensive Panny but the Sony was better so that's what I bought, you'll have no regrets.

Saw this deal but Imho I don't think it's that great for several reasons. 1) the tv spec is almost identical to the 5500. 2) I don't require a BD player 3) £150 for a BD player is over the odds. I can pick the model up in the link for £100. Thanks for the alternative though.

No freeview Hd ??
#13
Well spotted. Only 3/ 4 HD channels at the moment so why bother. Wait for the boxes to fall in price. Can already pick them up for just over £50

Great TV and a great price. Just make sure it's new if you get it from Argos. They are the re-boxed or ex-demo kings.

I've got the KDL37W5500, I was lucky enought to get it from Sainsburys for £399, this is a fantastic television, the 32" gets better reviews than the 37" go figure ? but this is a highly regarded TV

The viewing angle on these cheap Sony's is awful. If you go into the Argos and they have tv's up on display. Look at them from the side, the Sony's are the worst.

The W5500 wasn't a cheap TV when it launched.

I love my Sony LCD, I'd not change brand.

"Only 3/ 4 HD channels at the moment so why bother."
.... because it's a HD TV ?
I got a cheap Freeview HD box recently ( £100 Grundig) and am bowled over with the quality, so if you want to upgrade the price of these will only come down. I can heartly recommend Freeview HD if you don't have the Sky HD

Something todo with the manufacture of some 37" panels from both Sony and Samsung are outsourced

This is a good price for a good TV. And it wasn't one of their cheap models. The equivalent to this model in the new range would be a KDL-32EX503. OK so it doesn't have a Freeview HD tuner built in, but unless you are lucky enough to live an area that does have Freeview HD available you wouldn't get the benefit straight away, and in the time it does become available you could pick up a Freeview HD box quite cheaply I would imagine. There are bonuses to having one built in though which is the fact that it is ready so no extra box / cable & remote control needed. Hope that helps.

Heat added.

I've had the 40W55000 for about 9 months, and it is a brilliant TV (Got it from Argos for £600 :)).
It's my second Sony LCD, and when configured they have PQ almost as good as a plasma. It is the fashion to claim Sony LCD (actually all Sony products), are poor quality and Samsung are better, but this is because the owners of other brands are used to seeing TVs that are not configured correctly and perceive the blue push to the image as superior quality.

I am slightly dubious about Sony build quality lately, particularly the new series of TV so I feel that the older W series is a better buy even compromising the freesat .etc.

Plus the media streaming functionality is very good, and the DD 5.1 passthrough is very useful.

I have the 37" version of this tv. W range is second only to top of the range Zseries. Picture quality is superb.
\can't agree with your comments i'm afraid.

I got one of these a while ago. Very good picture, brilliant TV. one main problem i have with it though is video lag, even in "game mode" with motion flow turned off if your using a digital input like HDMI you get about 27ms video lag due to all the post processing the tv does on digital images. If your a serious fps gamer/use this as a monitor through hdmi/ play guitar hero this is really really annoying, always over turning/scrolling with the mouse. if you use vga input instead or component then theres no noticable lag but obv the pic quality suffers a little.

overall brilliant picture quality but if your mostly into gaming and want to use hdmi conider this first

Interesting comment, is this a common problem for anyone else ?

I have the 40W4500 and when I later saw the 40 & 32W5500 running sky movies HD I was blown away with how much more advanced the Bravia Engine 3 runs things. Poor viewing angle? Rubbish.

I have this TV - paid a lot more than this, and still very pleased with it.

Great SD picture, and superb full HD 1920x1080 monitor when hooked up to my laptop - word & excel have never looked better !

And the viewing angles on mine are v.good too - you can still see the screen clearly at a very extreme angle.

Only 'problem' I would say is that the shiny bezel attracts dust and shows fingerprints, and will scratch fairly easily. Not good if light source is directly facing the TV - you see the reflection in the bezel - but easily fixed by changing lights or swivelling TV slightly (stand is simple but v.good)

No problem with gaming for me, I've got my 360 and ps3 plugged into it, haven't experience any lag, maybe you've got a duff set ?

Certainly not for me.

A couple of questions-
- Can one person carry it from the store by himself? I live in a 3rd floor apartment and will have to take it up the stairs.
- Will the box fit in a VW polo with the back seats down?
I hope someone can answer. I already reserved one at Argos,
Cheers...

Input lag is sorta subjective. Some people will notice it, others won't.

27ms isn't bad for an LCD set.

Weight wise, absolutely no problems, I got it up and down a narrow stair case with ease. I don't know the Polo well, but it didn't fit in my Clio (mk3) because the curve in the roof prevented the doors shutting. The Polo has flatter sides so I'd say it would probably fit in.
