Spotted this myself; and bought ^_^

Cancelled the pixmania deal that is probably never going to arrive anyway...

Hot from me.
Only thing that may affect some people is the lack of inputs for Xbox 360, PS3, etc.

Ah, it should be fine for my needs - it has an optical in to take audio from the TV.

Fingers crossed I can have:

HD-DVD--(HDMI)-->TV--(optical)-->BDVE370-->speakers
along with:
Console--(HDMI)-->TV--(optical)-->BDVE370-->speakers
and:
PC--(HDMI)-->TV--(optical)-->BDVE370-->speakers

Sorry I meant if it was from Amazon does still qualify for VAT back?

Just asking as I bought a Sony walkman MP3 from Amazon when Sony were doing a Promo and they never honoured it as was bought from Amazon.

You really need to learn to read a thread.

It's mentioned in the 4th post!

"8. The Cashback is only available on products which have been supplied and distributed by Sony to its authorised dealers/
resellers within the UK and Republic of Ireland. Please check with your dealer to ensure your product is eligible and that the retailer
is an authorised dealer/reseller before purchasing to avoid disappointment. Purchases from tax-free retailers (e.g. at airports) are
excluded from the Promotion. Purchases which form part of a package or bundle are also excluded from the Promotion.

9. A Cashback claim cannot be validly made in respect of an item where a customer returns it to the retailer/reseller and receives
a full refund."

Same price at Laskeys and they have a direct link there to the claim form http://www.laskys.com/home_cinema_and_audio/home_cinema/all_in_one_home_cinema/sony_bdve370_cek.html

But, without the extra Harrods discount, I make the VAT £47.83 [14.89% of gross price] so would work out at £273.44 if my maths are correct....
#22
What does the code do? Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not sure how it gets from £349 down to £211. Does the GIFT100 code get you £100 off, then the VAT off takes it to £211?
A bit academic anyway, since they seem to have sold out.
Again, being a bit blonde, if it comes back, in the promo code box do you put "CODE GIFT100 LINK", "GIFT100 LINK" or "GIFT100"?
Post if it comes back.
#23
The actuall was £499, it was reduced to £349 - £100 (GIFT100) = £249 plus VAT back = £211
#24
The reason it is showing out of stock is because it was an error by their web team.

I just spoke to their Sony department who confirmed it is £499 instore and the online price was an error.

Sounds like bullcrap to me.
It was in their clearance section, clearly listed as £499 with a £150 discount.
Even at the price of £349 it was above the average market price for this product!

I'll be making a formal complaint if Harrods do not honour this >:(
#26
I don't think Harrods is an approved reseller for the VAT back deal:

http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/1237479399273

check the Sony link above, scroll down to the Google Map option, type in SW3 1 - postcode for Harrods, and it DOESN'T appear in the list of approved outlets.

so don't get your hopes up
#27
If you can get it on this price , it is a bargain
Paid £338 from laskys in June. I am not regretting it. Streaming youtube and bbc iplayer is very good
#28
just spoke to sony and they will not honour vat cashback as harrods is not an official sony seller.
there is a list on the cashback form and Harrods is not on it either

Still a cracking deals for £249.99!

I've raised a query with Sony Customer Services regarding this matter too.

I suspect if you send the form in, along with your Harrods proof of purchase - it will be honoured, regardless of what the minions at the call centre tell you.
#31
Why? It clearly states on the forms the terms and conditions of the VAT back. Harrods is not a VAT back eligible retailer and Sony have said they won't honour it.

I cannot believe that Harrods not being listed is anything more than a simple oversight. Especially when the list of authorized resellers is so enormous (~4000 retailers!).

I can imagine trying to claim for a product bought from a dodgy 2nd-hand seller through ebay would be unsuccessful, but this is Harrods FGS - probably the most prestigeous retailer in the UK.

... and still not on the list.

Where you buy it from is irrelevant (even if a high-end overpriced store) .. if it's not on the list then Sony aren't going to pay out, end of story, and why should they? otherwise, why have a list in the first place?

There's probably a very simple reason why they are not listed, maybe some legal reason now that they are owned by The Qatari Royal Family.

Anyway, the deal is no longer available so this needs expiring.

Just had this reply to my query.
Obviously the minions who answer the phones @ Sony are the same minions who reply to emails.

Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 29/11/2010 01.14 PM.

I am pleased to learn Sony BDV-E370.

After reading your e-mail I can confirm that Harrods are not in the VAT promotion. I have attached a link where you will be able to view all the participating company's below;

http://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/cross/H164/pdf/VAT-back_participating_stores.pdf

I hope this information is of some assistance. Thank you for your enquiry.

Yay for outsourcing Customer Services to India.....

I still think they're talking rubbish though; all he's done is looked up 'Harrods' in the same pdf as we've already referenced. Overruling an error or omission in the pdf is not something that these front-line grunts will have been programmed to do.

It might be worth emailing Harrods and querying whether they are an "authorized Sony retailer".
It'd certainly be embarrasing to them if they had to say "No, we're no better than that dodgy guy at the market selling stuff off the back of his truck".

I can just see the WatchDog segment now ;)
#35
Harrods are not an eligible retailer for the deal, it says to double check before purchase to avoid dissapointment, you have.

There will be a reason Harrods isn't on it, it's not talking rubbish from them, it's not on the list, the won't pay out, the end.

Ordered 2 Blu Ray Players late last night. Lets see if they honour the deal...
#38
All gone but I did pick up a couple of Sony portable DVD players with built in freeview. About £180 each, Harrods sale price £150 so 2 for £200. Sweet deal too, but now all gone. Will help entertain the kids on the pending 16 drive to skiing in the Alps.

How the hell can Harrods not be an authorised retailer?

A question I intend to ask to their customer services tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't find an email address on their website, so it'll have to be a phone call...
