Went and bought this last Saturday from my local store.
Fantastic TV at a great price....at least £50 cheaper than any other retailer (online/offline).
I'm sure people know this by now, but until end of September Sony are doing free 3 year warantee on all of their Bravia sets; all you have to do is register your purchase online, if I have understood correctly.

Depite some of the reviews mentioning bad cases of backlight bleed, I dont see it as *too* much of an issue on mine anyways. It is only visible if you're watching in completedarkness AND the screen is displaying an image which is 95% flat black...otherwise, me thinks you'll be fine :D

Unfortunately, you cannot order over the net, but give the store a call and reserve before you go to collect. PS, mine was from the Southgate branch.

If you feel this is a smashing deal, you know what to do!

Cheers

European Union legislation gives us 2 years protection on all TVs anyway, so this is an extension of a year longer than absolute minimum, surely?

It would be reasonable to assume that it would last at least 3 years, so you'd likely have a claim against the retailer regardless.

oh for f**k sake.

please stop with all this.

what an extra cover gives you (free or paid for) is a much quicker repair or replacement route.
if your TV fails or breaks down within this time you'll get it repaired or replaced easier than having to claim against the retailer.

some covers may have a specific cutoff point, under the law its considered as 'a reasonable amount of time', not very specific at all.
how does one judge reasonable for repairing a TV?
3 weeks? 2 days? 3 months if parts are out of stock or the TV is no longer in production and parts have to be sourced from over seas?

suddenly this site has turned from everyone wanting as much warranty as possible for the least cost, to "you don't need one".

well considering that the majority of retailers only make a small percentage of profit on the TV itself and much more through extended cover plans and add ons such as stands, wall mounts, cables etc etc, if no warranty is needed, profits go down, companies go bust. people out of work.
broken TVs cannot be taken back to bankrupt retailers.
you'd have to take it up with the manufacturer
