I ALSO asked about the trade in offer and you can take ANY OLD TV to them and they will take it, regardless of model, make or condition... it doesnt even have to work

I know its a hassle taking old Tv's in to them but they'll take anything so I'm going to take an old portable that I have had in the loft for a fair few years!

So it's not really £719? it's £719 and a TV?

If it was online I'd consider it but all the hassle of finding an old TV then carrying it to the store, I can't be bothered. But if you can then I guess it's a good price..... Your basically paying normal rate for the TV and getting a blu-ray player for £20

KDL40W5500 available from cheapelectricals for £659 delivered.
3 year warranty inc.
still not bad if you need a bluray player though.

John lewis were/are(?) doing money off sony TVs when you bring in an old one. I asked about bringing in a broken one and the guy said i could have the discount but dont bother bringing in the broken one since its just hassle for him. perhaps its worth asking the particular store if they will do the same if you do go for this deal.

its a great tv, i bought it from john lewis but when they had it for £499.99

You also get 5 year warranty on an expensive TV, imagine something went wrong a few years down the line, the warranty alone is worth over £100. I would ask the store if they wan't a tatty old 14" portable and see if they actual do, if yes, then just find one in your house or used!

I have just recently bought the SONY 40" W5500 for £700 and am so happy with my purchase. I wish i could wait for this deal as the extra blue ray player and 5 years warranty is great.

Isn't it cheaper to get JL to pricematch to Richer Sounds (£699.95), then take in your old TV (price goes to £599.95), then find a BD player for less than £219?

john lewis only price match the exact. richer sounds is 12 month warranty so no. its £70 more for the five year warrenty. so £670 with trade in and 5 yr warrenty... leaving you with a blu-ray player which retails at £180 for £50 plus you dont have to wait 3 days for john lewis to get back to you. oh and they will only price match if richer have it in stock at the time.... my local store didn't today...
... so i went for the sonex centre deal... price as listed absolutly cracking deal

Trafford centre had loads of w5500 and w5710's in stock today.... mega chuffed... thanks poster :)

John lewis r full of sh1t when it comes to price match i have been trying to get them to price match this tv with richer sounds every time they tell me it takes 5 days that was like 2 weeks ago.

They employ pompous speaking staff and then give you all the excuses they can and use words like oh golly gosh etc

That's not the experience of other people, for example in the mega thread when this TV was £499. It may depend on who you talk to and how persistent you are.

What the JL price match guarantee says is that they will match a similar item at a store within a certain distance that has them in stock. The 5 year guarantee is something extra they add in themselves for free (ie you can't buy this TV from JL with a one year guarantee).

Obviously YMMV.

not quite true

Which prices do you match?
We match prices publicly available to all customers, based
on those displayed in a shop or the first price quoted to
us over the phone. The price has to apply to the identical
product in terms of make, model, size or colour
. We don’t
match prices only available online or in catalogues, or
special prices only available to certain customers – such as
negotiated prices or prices for groups like account holders
or club members.

We bought one of these from Sony Meadowhall Sheffield yesterday - set up and there are no backlight bleed problems on the set we have bought - absolutely brilliant picture - just waiting for Sky to be installed now. The guy 'forgot' to put the free 5 year guarantee on at first though so make sure that it is added, and also tried to sell us a Sony hdmi cable for the bluray player at £59.99! No thanks - cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks to the OP for this deal (only £720 out of pocket now  ). Finally went for the deal and was told they had run out of the BDP-S360, so they were substituting a BDP-S363 with 3 Blu-Ray disks (Slumdog Millionaire, Terminator Salvation and Angels & Demons) :)

Oh yes, and from my extremely limited experience of non 28" CRT TVs the picture looks fine, very happy!

What's not quite true? The bit you bolded only causes issues with price matching the W5500 vs JL's W5710, but people are anecdotally successful in getting JL to agree they're the same TV. In fact, I phoned up Friday to give it a go, and they reluctantly agreed after some urging.

The five year warranty to five year warranty price comparison never came up, nor did it in the monster thread on this TV a few weeks ago.
