John Lewis 'Price Match' for 5 Year Warranty ;)
- collectorcol

Aparantly JL are refusing Price Match now.
I'd still buy from them or Tesco as the extended watrranty they offer is worth much more than £40 ;)
- collectorcol

Scrub that ^ Don't put 'BBU' on the model number.

My first day on Hot Deals and my first submission. After checking all the other Sony deals I saw this in Argos and for an extra £160 against another great deal, I found this added 8 inches, Smart setup and upgraded from the R to the W range...a bargain so I've just bought it to replace my old Sony.

Picture is superb, unit looks spot on and although I read one review that the sound requires a soundbar I disagree, as it seems a slight upgrade from the sound on my last Bravia (so more an optional upgrade rather than essential one)

I'd definitely recommend and Argos seem to be selling this £41 cheaper than any other vendor and around £241 off RRP

Nice price looking at the 50 or 55 inch but for this price for 48. Might settle for 48 will have a think

Don't see it online

Another 40 quid to get 5 years of warranty from JL would be worth the extra - innit ?

I expect JL will price match it - they did my 50" SONY against Argos!

How does this TV compare with the KDL42W829 - I was keen on the latter so far coz it comes with the soundbar from Amazon ?
#12
The 829 is £499 and as far as I can tell is £40 more expensive, 6" smaller and has the same X-Reality Pro kit in it.

It does have 3D though, but as far as I can see it doesn't come with a soundbar

Amazon have an offer running right now where all W8 series Sony Bravia come with the free sounbar HT-CT60BT - in-fact I have ordered it last night but this one seems more tempting albeit without the soundbar hence the questions :)

I'd prefer the extra 6" personally but I use a 5.1 system so the soundbar is useless.

Other than the extra 6" anything else going in favour of this one - it doesn't have 3D by the way?

Zero interest in 3D.
Dunno about your needs/requirements but this looks perfect.
I'm returning a cheap 50" Toshiba because the picture was awful.
48" is perfect for me, upgrading and 42" going in bedroom, and this seems to be a very good set.
The W8 will be a higher spec. but 48" looks more impressive. With the JL Warranty you can't go much wrong imo.

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated.

This is going to be my first smart TV - hence confused between the choices. I am pretty certain I want a Sony - so that rules out the others in the lot. 3D I am not too keen on either - as I cant necessarily be bothered with wearing extra glasses for them plus not sure many mainstream channels etc. still do a good 3D picture quality telecasts either (could be wrong here). The TV is meant for the living room and I am not too keen either on spending on a sound system as yet - hence thought the soundbar might do the job for now.

W8 does look like a newer series than the W5 - but I can't be sure about the spec-to-spec difference between the two - as only the size and the passive 3D seemed to stand out.

Better watch out than because Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi merged to make all their TV the same pretty much if you find the picture was awful

I wouldn't go for a w5 at this time, expect the price of this to drop a lot further soon
#20
Does anyone know what the input lag is like on this? I'm thinking about picking this up to upgrade my gaming TV

Pixmania have this for 429.99 + 9.99 delivery. Not many people like pixmania though.

Size of TV with stand: H67.4, W108.6, D19.6cm.

Am I being an idiot or does the TV shrink in size on the stand?

Aaaaahh.. what to do. I currently have a 42" 1080p Toshiba which is great.. but it would be nice to go to LED and have DLNA.. Hmmm..

I got confirmation of my JL Price Match this morning :)

Very happy but earliest delivery is Monday the 5th.
I found this last night (why didn't I post it?!), although glad I didn't buy it now I know about the price matching. I did try searching on John Lewis, but I used KDL48W585BBU but JL only use KDL48W585. Not sure what the BBU means, but who cares if JL price match - thanks Collectorcol!
#28
Any discount codes ?
#29
Good price especially with the price match, which going by all of the sony refurbs on here over the past few months you might need it, certainly puts me off :(

John Lewis have refused to price match - the BBU on the code for Argos must mean something:

Thank you for your enquiry.

In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I regret that after review the request you have submitted does not match all or parts of this policy.

John Lewis will validate a price match if the competitors' product is identical to the product we sell in terms of make, model number, colour and size. This approach ensures consistency for all our customers and ensures the policy is transparent.

Therefore, on this occasion I am sorry I cannot match the price offered by Argos. If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website.

I was unable to locate the identical product on the Argos website.

I am sorry I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion. If you require any further information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

I've just got a confirmation from JL for the price match as well.
Try again Holdsworth without the BBU at the end of the model name.
#32
Wouldn't touch LG, poor reliability in my experience.
#33
This TV is 100hz is that true 100hz or does it just double a 50hz signal.

Long story short will this TV support 60hz games?

I just had confirmation from JL as well on the price match - which makes it a spanking hot deal with the 5 year warranty that JL gives.

Not fair , my old chap has gone from poopooing my new rear projection tv 10+ years ago, saying hes happy with his 28" CRT, to getting SAMSUNG UE48H6400 before Xmas, What HiFi Product of the Year, Awards 2014 ....

Worth the extra £70, thinking of treating myself.....

Have just received this- so no price match

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have contacted Argos and have been informed that they do not currently have stock of the Sony KDL48W585 TV, therefore on this occasion I cannot match the price quoted by Argos.

We carry a wide range of lines and our competitor has to have the line in stock (rather than available to order) for us to match the price. We deliver value to our customers by promptly supplying the product they require, either to take away or be delivered in a reasonable timescale.

I am sorry I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion. If you require any further information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Just add the below :-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IJ5RWOK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 (The TV)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00I98DHW8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 (The soundbar)

To your basket and when you get to the payment page the discount would auto apply and you should see the price come down to 499 for the bundle. If you aren't after the 5 year warranty that John Lewis gives for TVs then this is still a good offer, one which I just purchased a few days back (since I had managed to stack a few bespoke 5 for 10 amazon coupons effectively bringing down the cost of the TV a great deal - but thats a separate discussion and sadly one that has expired now :) )

Hope this helps.
