This is a very good deal for Sony 50mm F1.8 OSS E-Mount Lens.

Product Description:

A focal length that is perfect for portraiture and a range of other subjects, a bright F1.8 maximum aperture, Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization and impressive image quality. Put it all together in a lens that is surprisingly compact and lightweight and you have a winning combination: the SEL50F18. The large maximum aperture and Optical SteadyShot are worthy features in their own right, but working together they make it possible to shoot crisp, clear images under low-light conditions that would be beyond the capabilities of a conventional lens. The F1.8 maximum aperture and a circular aperture design also join forces to create gorgeous defocusing effects. Add responsive, quiet autofocus and aperture operation, and you have a lens that is ideally suited to shooting movies as well as stills.

how do you compare it with kit lens?

It's much sharper. Please take note this is a prime lens if you haven't got any. you have to move your body to compose.

The bokeh is awesome. You also can use lower ISO in the low light situation without needing a flash.

The Sigma has no stabilization and a slower max aperture F2.8, for the measly £10 price difference you'd be mad to go for the Sigma. The Sony is very well made and sharp, the black colour is nicer but does it really matter? The silver looks fine on my Nex.

Its not about a price. Sigma is quite sharper apparently. Not much experience so not sure how important is stabilization.

And while price difference is £40(if going for black lens) 50 Sony vs 60 Sigma, its different story 30mm Sigma vs 35mm Sony.

stabilisation is for low light really, in good light you will have high enough shutter speed anyway hopefully

good deal, heat added

I got a black sel50 off amazon a while back with this cashback deal. I used to think the black ones were all grey imports.
Sigma 60 is ~£125 and seems sharper on my e-pm2 than the 50sel on 16mp nex.
edit - the sigma 30mm was the best value e-mount lens with list of £99 and far more useful than this 50mm , best is it makes for a more compact package.

I'm rather surprised by the amount of people saying they need the lens in black. Must be new fangled technology where the colour helps you take a better picture?

I love my 50mm prime, for the price this is a great deal.

Bats are black, Batman is meant to be black, lenses on the other hand have always been silver or black so wouldn't look stupid in either way. Silver equipment can be a problem in product and fine art photography where reflections can cause issues, then black gaffer tape and velvet curtains come in handy.
