UPDATED: Since posting this deal, deanos has pointed out that the three pack of tapes may work out even cheaper (see post 11 for link and to give the man some well deserved rep). The only time it works out more expensive is if you buy one pack and pay P&P.

I've heard Sony are wet and others (JVC etc) are dry. Not a good idea to mix the two. Anyone else care to shed some light on this?

This is a good deal considering you can get a miniDV camcorder for around £110 nowadays, very cheap for decent home movies

I'd avoid Sony tapes like the plague.

They're cheap for a reason.

I have now run over 200+ tapes through my JVC DV3000 cam of so many different brands and qualities with no issues whatsoever, The picture quality is still the same as the day of purchase...... BRILL!

My personnal trick is to only use the tape once, I consider that using the same tape over and over is more likely to affect/rub off any coatings (from any brand or quality of tape) and deposit them onto the heads than anyother reason, they are so cheap ( £1 to £1.25 ish) so I dont see the need to use each tape more than once.

Your mileage may vary.

Sure, the manufacture of the various brands is different, but if the manufacturers were that incompentent to release products that damaged/disabled or caused serious issues with peoples equiptment they would be all facing class actions.

I think that it is more likely that if someone unkowingly puts a rogue tape into their cam then they can have problems with deposits on the heads... It has happened to me on another cam...Cheap compact JVC dv cam... I just dumped the tape, ran a head cleaner....no worries...sorted.

Seems these days that no matter what you want to buy if you search for a forum long enough you will find someone who has an opinion (good or bad) on anything and everything, so much so I stopped reading forums......errr? apart from this one obviously :-)

YOU would avoid them! ...but how about us people that have never ever had problems with these tapes?....should we take your sage advice and stop using items that you in your wisdom think is cheap so must be rubbish(AKA you get what you pay for drivel?)

Folks....dont listen to the nay sayers, these are as good as any other budget tape on the market for Mr Joe Average like me.

All Kudos to the OP.

Oh and BTW check out these folks... A fantastic company with one of the best sales and aftersales service in the industry IMHO http://www.pricebuster.org.uk these are part of the toptape company but you dont need an account and all that jazz, so its cool for ordering in small quantities

I do not have any commercial affiliation with them, but I do buy lots of DV tapes and other media from them, they will even post you one tape if you want. cool.

Gawd, I'm an idiot. I looked at that as well. But I just doubled the price so didn't think it was as good a deal, forgetting the other packs had 5 tapes not 6!

Thanks deanos. Have some rep. :)

Do you want to start a new thread, or shall I just add the info to the OP?

Never had a problem with these or the JVC ones - which you can pick up from Poundland (for guess how much!!)?? :-)

I've always used these sony tapes with my Canon HV20 and never had any issues! I've just ordered 18 tapes via the 3+1 offer. I also had a voucher for £2.50 courtesy of HUKDeals, so all in it was £18.98 for 18 tapes and 6 head cleaners! Bargain. Thanks!

Ive never had any problems with sony tapes and I work with them on a semi pro level with cannon xm2 digi cameras. Usually i get my tapes on ebay though where they are usually a lot cheaper but given that postage can be dropped these do look like an excellent deal!

Don't know if anybody has heard of CLEARANCE BARGAINS, they are Argos but trade under that name and sell Argos products at very low prices but they sell 10 of these for £9.99. My BF picked up a Sony Handycam starter pack too for £2.99, with bag, battery and mini-DV tape.

I see that the retailer you mention doesn't like Sony either - so it must be **** ........... (or maybe they just can't match this price as there's not enough profit). You seem pretty clued up, Scissorhands; I was just looking at your other posts and mostly you've been disappointed with just about everything.
Maybe you should try another forum?

Cant beat tape for reliable storage, far far better than dvd or hard disk
